I was wondering if any one has evoked the Celtic deity Belenos? If so, how did your experience turn out?

Greetings Daev!

Belenos ... 'The Shining One' ... also known as Beli Mawr (The Great) or the Celtic God Of The Sun ... Gaulish God Of The Light ...

No ... I can't help you with the evocation of Belenos. However I was involved in a Festival Of Beltane a few years back. There was a group meditation ... and at the time I knew scant about this particular god.

Anyway ... I sighted a shining being on a horse throwing bolts of energy like lightning in my meditation. I related this to the group later ... and found out many others had seen the same entity ...

I was then told it was Beli Mawr (Belenos) ... some associate him with Apollo ... and the Yesod Madness (twelve months and a day in the land of illusion) so be wary if you do evoke him as he will test you with 'I will give you all the knowledge and all the riches if you follow me' ...

Well, I know all the common stuff about Belenos... But I can't find any historical information about him other then the bare essencials. So far I know this about him...

He is a Celtic Sun Diety who represents Fire, Success/prosperity, birth, agriculture, wisdom, new paths/lifes and somtimes death. Belenos means bright (or bel does) and is know as "The Shining One" and as the protector of Farm animals such as cattle and sheep, but not Horses. Horses were looked after by another diety named Epona. I also know that he has a wife,... I forget her name at the moment.

I am very curious as to what kinds of things people normally sacrifice to this deity or used to.

*EDIT*

I did a search on Yesod Madness and the "twelve months and a day in the land of illusion", but couldn't find any thing on it.

Greetings.

I don't know if it can be found anywhere. It was something a cabala teacher had taught me and her advanced group some fifteen years ago.

I will dig through my literature library and see what I can find (IMG:style_emoticons/default/black eye.gif)

OK, thanks for the help Mr.Merlin, I hope you can find some more information on Belenos for me. I have heard that he is worshiped as a god in some areas of Scotland or Ireland but can't find any specific info or groups dedicated to him. I am going to go out and do a ritual right now and will post the results in a weeks time.

*** I actually did not go out and do the ritual right away like I had planned, I felt like I wasn't ready to make it successful ***

Here is my experience with a ritual I did towards the Celtic god Belenus sometime back in July that I had pretty much made up from what I figured would work.

First I did somthing like the qabalistic cross only a bit different and visualised solar energy going through me, then I made a cirlce with about 30 loonies while chanting a phrase dedicated to the Celtic god Belenus. After that I sat down and just meditated for a few minuites then called Belenus for a few more untill I felt "different". I had brang some rye as a gift for Belenus (the loonies were also there as a sacrifice) took a shot stood up poured out the rye in a circle over the loonies while explaining myself out loud in the middle of the forest. After that I tryed scrying and at one point I got soo tired that had to lay down. I awoke about half an hour later wondering what had happened.

For some stupid reason i never recorded my dream, but I do remember feeling enlighened once I woke up. This was the first ritual I have done where I actually had planned it out for at least a month and had major intent. My walk back through the woods was also very interesting I was full of appreciation and had a feeling of mild bliss.

I don't think drinking the shot of rye and meditating at the same time was the cause of me getting so tierd, but then I don't usually meditate and drink at the same time.

I feel that this ritual was a success... My goal was to be in a better financial position and in less then a month I was walking down the street and was offered a higher paying job with more hours. It was wierd because it was a place that i had worked before and had quit twice with no notice and during a very busy time when i was needed very badly. There was reason behind why I had quit twice but it's really of no importance. Feel free to comment or ask me questions... I have probably left a bit out since this happened a while ago and i didn't record my experience.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Goddess Bless!

It's wonderful that this happened. Belenos has really given you a gift that no one should turn down. He spent energy for you so that you could have what you needed. Offering the loonies and the rye was good as he likes both of them (you should have offered him a shot, too, but that's beside the point (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ). Cheers and Goddess Bless!
