I'm not talking about the crypotozoologic kind, like the bray road beast and other such sightings of giant wolf things. I'm talking about the differnt theories on real werewolves, originally derived from real people. I think the most likely theory is on those on a slightly shamanistic track; those that assume wolfisms from minor tendencies to full blown mind warps, on either a regular or irregular basis. Like vampires, werewolves most definately exist, just most likely in a different form and a lesser extent than portrayed by hollywood movies. So I was wondering what anyone thought about the concept of werewolves, mainly in contemporary times. Cheers:) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/witch.gif)

Well I know there are an psycological ilness where pepole belive they are animals, act like animals in every way, often this is considerd the sorce of the werewolf myth together whit another ilness that give extensive hair growth over the entire body. I however think there is more to the myth than just some as many like to say, poor ignorant medival folk miss understanding an ilness. In Norway we did not have mutch legends of Werewolfs, we did however have many legends of Wearebears. Theese was suposedly sorcerers that had made a deal whit some dark power and either resived a magick belt that transformed them into a bear, or the took on a bear plet and became a bear. We had other were animals as well ofcourse but werebears stood wery strong in our mytology.

It is interesting to note that in Viking times scandinavia was known for the bearserks, witch dranslates into bear skins, a group of warriors and used flein mushroom and rituals to make themself totaly fearless, totaly insensitive to pain and totaly barbaric. Other pepoles the Vikings atackked feared theese warriors that dressed in bearskins did not seam to be like other men, they took mortal wounds and yet continued to fight unthil the battle was over or they were hacked to pices, they feared nothing and was like vicious animals on the battlefieald. In a way the bearserks used a form of sjamanisem to turn into bears and were a kind of werebears, and it is possibly from there that Norway`s myth aboute werebears comes

... Hertzegovina,in former Yugoslav Republic of Bosnia and Hertzegovina, antropologists recorded myth and folk stories about werevolves (as you maybe know south slavic totem animal is wolf). in earliest of those myths women were ones shapeshifting, and there is also described (mythical) method used to do so, they would take off their clothes turn inside out and form circle of it, then she would roll over her head three times, for changing back she had to do same.
as for something more modern ... spare&atavism?

Greetings,

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/blowup.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jawdrop.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/puke.gif) I just saw one run over the Brooklyn bridge. Frankenstein was chasing him. I have met a couple of people within the New York City Vampire scene who claim to be Were but they could not show me anything to validate such claims. There is a group which calls themselves the Wolfpack which hangs around Astor Station in the Village. Their leader and a few of his underlings went to jail last year for beating a homeless man to death.

Even if one really were a Werewolf I don't know that I would want them to prove it to me. I just might be their next dinner. Philosophically my views about werewolves fulls under the otherkin. Werewolves have certain qualities that represent an archetype and I believe some people may share those as well. In that sense they are werewolves. But not because they litterally change into some blood thristy killer during a full moon but because their carnal cravings are most active during the full moon.

Historically I believe the origins of the werewolf myth are actually pretty mundane. Back in the days of the Vikings, for example, the various kings hired elite warriors called berserkers. Now these were professional sword slinging, axe weilding fighters who were known to howl and growl like wild animals, wear animal skins (even horns on their helmets - that myth is at least partially true) over their chain mail, paint their faces anything they could do to intimidate their enemy. Prior to battle they were known to ingest large quanitites of a certain mushroom that causes mild hallunicinations and increases the amount of adrenaline. This made these guys go... well berserk. You can imagine any regular group of soldiers (back in those days many battles were fought by small armies) would be utterly horrified and most likely run rather than fight what must have seemed like a bunch of demons.

The problem was these berserkers only had an aptitude for combat. They weren't exactly useful as accountants or bankers. So once they had completed their contracts they were unemployed with no way to make money. I'd imagine some got jobs as body guards or managed to be mercenaries for other lords and kings but some did not. And well everybody has to make a living some how and these unemployed and discarded berserkers became murauders. Bandits. Just imagine being a typical peasant or merchant of the day minding your own business traveling late at night on a full moon (the best time to be ambushed because the moon light) and being attacked by these berserkers, some of them may have even stayed in the countries they were fighting in, like Norway, France or Russia or Bulgaria - places known for superstition. I'd think that any survivors of these attacks would have reported being amubushed by monsters - or werewolves. I believe in Norway especially the Berserker bandits got so bad that the the nobles had to hire new armies just to fight them off.

These berserkers are just one example I'm sure this was true even in the days of ancient Greese and Rome who may have hired Celtic or Gothic mercenaries.

Greetings 'Thorn,

My memory seems a bit fuzzy. I am not sure exactly how long ago this took place. LAst year sometime. I did manage to meet a couple of the members of the wolf pack about a year before this took place although I do not know if they were involved in the attack. The newspaper said that they were affiliated with the gang Bloods which is kinda true but not really. They like to wear black and red and claim to be Bloods although they are not real Bloods. I think the term is more attractive to them as they are vampire affiliated. I will see if the daily news has a search feature and look for the article.

I am not sure if this has gone to trial yet. In this city the wheels of justice turn very slowly.

Werewolves were ancient shapeshifters in tribes [primarly in ancient Europe (western Russia now)] who used "etheric travel" to change shapes in the physical as animals. These tribals were the Indo-Europeans, and their traditions passed on mostly to the Norse and Vikings, some to the Eastern Europeans. The "berserkers", or the bear shapeshifters of the Norse were also upon these, and used the 2nd method below to shapeshift. Most of these Europeans (prior 3,000 years ago) would go into wildlife and live just as wolves and practice shapeshifting.

There are two ways of shapeshifting that effects the physical:

1. Changing shape via "etheric travel" (similar to an OBE), which leaves the physical body in a trance state and has not much connection or consciousness with the physical body. The Native Americans (some tribes) used this method.

2. Changing the etheric body to that of an animal's without leaving the physical body. This method is a more difficult but a conscious method of shapeshifting, where the body is that of a human's but the traits and potentials excell to that of an animal's (both physically and mentally, to a degree). The "Berserkers" and most of the European shapeshifters used this method.

Though some Native American tribes (primarely in the northern regions of North America) practice the 1st method of shapeshifting, they are way too privy to succumb to a "white" to tell their secrets. However, there is one area in Eastern Europe (of the Balkans) that i'm aware of which practice lycanthropy in the 2nd form.

The myth of "silver"?

Silver is a strong metal, and as you should know, metal has an effect on the etheric body of which the shapeshifter's use to shapeshift (wolf magick).

I believe anything in the dream world once done can be done here. Once you feel the energy and what is going on in the dream you can copy it and do it again here.

By the way the whole Berzerker and barbarian deal reminds me so much of the 13th warrior. Great film.

To smasher666: The concept of supernatural gangs in new york is really interesting. I was wondering where you got the information, and if you knew of any online archives that might have information on it. And i definitely agree with the annoyingly slow pace of modern city justice

I'd avoided responding to this for a while and now I just have to, regardless of who thinks what.

Yes, I've legitimately seen a werewolf before, or at least what I consider to be one. It moved so fast that it was almost incredible, and from what I remember it was a shocking pallor of green. It also smelled absolutely horrible. I guess I should start where it all actually started. My little brother had a dream that two werewolves had come to him, he didn't know how he knew they were werewolves, but they were, and one of them said that they were looking for a wolf in his (my) house. This bothered me, both because I've always held a very strong relationship with the wild, but the first animal I ever saw in the wild was a wolf, and the form my spirit guide takes is that of a shadow-black wolf. Anyways, so, I went through some odd cycles of thought for a while, and later on in the evening, my folks told me they were going to visit my uncle and aunt up in the woods, and as I had school the next day, they were going to leave me alone in the house. This has always been a breath of fresh air for me, as my father is a very conservative long-winded christian, the bible-thumper kind. You know, the kind that tells you all that's wrong in the world is due to not enough prayer. But I digress.

So, it's around 11:30, I remember this because I had just looked at my clock when I heard the most peculiar thumping noise against the side of the house. It was metallic, it sounded dense, and I wondered if it was windy outside. It wasn't, I turned on the porch light and looked through the window. But then I felt this... Need, to go outside. So I put on my slippers, and stepped out. From the edge of the forest that the local paper mill, Boise Cascade, had planted, I saw this skulking feral humanoid creature wandering back into the forest. I watched it for a while, and as it was almost entirely back into the forest, it whipped around to look at me. So I, obviously frightened at this point, turned, and bolted to the gun cabinet. I thought for a moment, and then remembered my dad would kill me if I touched his guns without asking. This seemed like valid logic at the time. So when I turned around I didn't see anything. Out of a sort of morbid curiosity, I went and grabbed my shoes, jacket, and my favorite bayonet, and went outside. I walked to the side of the house, and looked around for a while. It was just as I was about to go back into the house that I saw this little darting object out of the corner of my eye. So I turn around, naturally, and in the space that my turning around occupied, I saw this thing move so fast... Jesus, words don't describe. It was approximately 400 feet away, and in three seconds, it was two inches from my face. I remember falling down, blinking, and it was just gone. Its face was so frightening, because it looked exactly like some of the pictures I've seen that people draw. And it had this noxious breath... Makes me shudder, just thinking about it.

Okay, so, now that I've up and said it... Yes, I believe in werewolves. I believe in physical manifestations of the wolf man. I believe, and I know people are going to think it's B.S. or that I'm crazy for it. Well go right ahead, I know what I saw. Sometimes, when I close my eyes, I still see the damn thing's face. I have no idea why it didn't attack me, maybe it just got a kick out of me being terrified. But in any case, it was damn scary.

That is the "2nd type of" etheric projection used to etherically transform into a werewolf. If you're in danger silver or something high in metallic would help killing it, nothing else would. Water may also help as it has a substance in it (where holy water comes from).

These are people just like you who have mastered etheric projection and shapeshift within the etheric body and become physical, their etheric death will vanish and cause them their physical death. This is the "2nd" type of etheric projection i posted.

Its nothing impossible, tribes have practiced this for years long ago, its just not understood and illustrious in the new age.

*note - This is NOT limited to wolves, it works with ANY animal.

Greetings 'Thorn,

Basically the Wolf Pack is a bunch of kids who like to play vampire dress up <Including vampire teeth specially fitted and glued over their real teeth. > Some of the Wolf Pack 3 years ago were pick pockets in Times Square who used the Easy Internet Cafe on 42cnd street. They hacked all of the computers there so that they did not have to pay for internet access. As far as occult goes they have no knowledge other than they think it is <Cool.>

The Vampire community as a whole is not so bad. I seriously HATE the lifestylers. It is like thier life is an RPG game or some bull$h!t. The real Sang and Psi vamps here are not lifestylers though.
Do you have to wear all black and the vampire cross all the time to feed vampiricly? Heck no. That is just a bunch of crapola to try and be groovy.

They used to throw some killer parties at Jekyll and Hydes restaurants on the weekends. They would convert to a club at night and it was a very intense no bull$h!t crowd. There was some beef in the Sang coven which was putting on the parties though and it was the end of a good thing. The Bat Cave here in NYC is not a bad club. You might meet a real vamp or two in there. However its more likely that you will run into a bunch of lifestylers. <Trying to kiss some real vamps rump in there.>

There is also an old church which they turned into a club in MId Town which alot of Vamps go to. However it is not my type of crowd. As I seriously could use some anger management classes and the young crowd tends to like drama. A combustible combination.

U want me to find you some links to the Sang covens here in NYC?

The search seems to show up in the Daily News archives. However the jerks want money for it to be viewed. Media Nazis.
Peace

Sounds v. cool. I totally agree with your view on wannabe whatevers, which goes for vampires, witches, other stuff that's 'technically not supposed to exist'. It's like they use the title as a status symbol or something. Anyway, I plan on living in New York in the next few years, so it's really good to know this stuff. And yeah if you know any links on vampy covens in the area I'd definitely be interested in seeing them:) (I have this bad habit of wanting to know everything about everything, in case you hadn't noticed:P) And thanks again
