Isn't that one of those online vr simulators where you have to subsribe in order to play? If it wasn't for that (plus cost of the game) I'd be down. Well and I'd need to get my own computer with a super fresh graphics card and high speed internet. But it looks like it'd be pretty fun. Actually I read about a Star Wars type game where you could choose to be good or evil, a vr like World of Warcraft only Star Wars style.

Now if they made a world of Star craft game I'd be saving my pennies (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

actually it is an emulator not a vr server an emulator is sort of illegel but worth it you can kind of design the game the way you want and it is totally free as long as you know the person that is running it if you can work out the bugs in an emulator it would be just like the actual game with the exception of more privacy and I am about done creating an emulator and it is not good to have a lot of ppl on it because if blizzard finds out your r doing it you will get sued

Not expressly true, about the emulator being illegal. You bought the game, you own it, legally, there's no harm in using it on your own private server, as long as you're not making money. It just means you're going around the terms of the parent company. And since Blizzard seems to love messing people over, it wouldn't be far out of the realm of possibility to consider the fact that the EULA probably contains something about not playing it online except on official servers. So, from what I've heard, actually, playing it on a server you made homebrew and not online, isn't illegal. But playing online is.

The emulator, database, frontend, none of that stuff is illegal. The online play is... From what I've heard. Either way, I thought I'd clear that up so you wouldn't get in trouble with the MODstaff.

But I'd recommend, especially on a legitimate messageboard like this, not to encourage illicit activities. Either way, freaking kudos for getting around all the hassle of hooking up a database and server... I tried nonstop for three days, and I got really close, but then MySQL server crapped out on me, and I couldn't reinstall. So, it won't really ever work properly again. Joy of joys.

I love WoW though, I just wish I could afford it.

actually, its their server software, so using your own server is illegal.
You bought the game, ie the client software. The server software remains property of blizzard.
They don't sell their server software, so it isn't even possible to legally have a server.

An emulator is not illegal exactly, but you could infringe on certain patents from blizzard by making one.
Then again, i know for a fact that you did not hand write a piece of server software for this game, since it is nearly impossible for 1 guy to do.
Perhaps if you had a few years and a team of 12 programmers. working 9 to 5.

So, it is in fact wrong to say it is an emulator. It is a leaked version of blizzards server software i think.
One you got somewhere on the internet and installed on your own computer.

Its probably illegal, but i don't think blizzard is actively suing these servers, since there are a lot of big free servers for wow on the internet.
And they can be found by a quick google.

None the less, i liked playing everquest 2, but i cancelled my account recently because it took to much time and too much money.

I think it would be neat to have a sacred magick wow server.
I would certainly come and play (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Well, it is their server software, and it's included in the libraries that come with the client. The only thing you'd be using, in most cases, is a database put together with mysql - that uses their server software and libraries. It's just a cohesive third-party database that uses their software.

I'd play too, that'd be neat.

we almost have it finished but there is a few minor bugs and you also have to have WoW already installed into your pc that is one of the bugs we r working on at the moment and another thing it is harder than you think to do this you don't just download the files off the internet you have to edit them because most of them r poorly made
