Herbs, I'm looking for a herb... Options

We can use herbs for, and in the place of many things.

I'm looking for a herb that has anti-coagulant effect. Could someone help me?

hawthorn, but don't overdose as you'll die like a rat (literally)

hawthorn is also anti-hypertensive and good for the nerves, but regulate the dosage or it will be like rat poison

It's been a while since my research on herbalism, so I forget excactly which ones are anti-coagulants...I was really more interested in poisoning effects.

I'm sure you can find Warfarin or something, maybe extract from the plants its made from...Then if you need to enhance it, I'm fairly sure alfalfa, chamomile, celery, as well as a few others enhance the effects of anti-coagulants. Or you could just find a leech or two. I'm not excactly sure you should trust my word though; as I said, I've forgotten most of my studies on plants, and I left my notes on another computer.

esoterica: I don't want to die (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif), I just need it because I want to paint my runeset with red paint mixed with my blood, and I dont want to use heparine as anti-coagulant.

So in the same vein as the original post, which herbs would be best for keeping blood no longer in the body in liquid form, and how would you go about using them? For instance, would you use the powdered herb directly, or an infusion?

clotting's all about the platelets, right? - how bout just using plasma so its still your blood but wouldn't clot so bad - spin it round your head on a cord like a centrifuge - might screw up the drying time on the red paint though

a bit of aspirin dissolved in the blood might just help - used in plant shops to make the plants last longer

ah-ha! got it! add some hydrogen peroxide to the blood and it won't clot for a long time! (source: csi tv show episode) won't screw up the paint either but will evaporate

willow bark will work. but i don't know how you can get it into the blood.
Willow bark contains almost the same chemicals as aspirin.

You can also use "red ochre" for your Runes. In Germanic Rune lore this was a traditional subsitute for blood.

I rarely work with blood but if I had alot of writing that needed blood as a medium I could go down to a gardening supply and get a bag of dried blood (used as a fertilizer). Now this will be cow, pig or sheep blood from a slaughter house so I have no idea what kind of energy signature will exist (not much but test it!) The use of dried blood is handy in that the clotting factors have been triggered so it can't happen again. Mix water with the blood to the right consistancy and add a drop of ammonia (to keep it flowing) and viola!, fairly cheap, real blood, ink! I'd add a bit of gum arabic to help it adhere to the paper upon drying. Just my 2 cents worth! Good luck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

i can undertand the reasoning behind his blood on the runes - the linkage to animals or the earth is different

on the other hand -

i keep finding references to red ochre all over the place these days - from "neadertal skulls covered in a red ochre crayon to better catch the dna-activating blue rays coming from cygnus" to "red ochre round the eyes leads to visions"

what exactly is red ochre? (sorry for the thread hijack, but i'd really like to know!)

is it like red clay? - heavens knows we've got plenty of that here in the southeast usa!

Red Ochre is hydrated iron(lll)oxide and is mine from the ground and sometime burned to enhance it's color. And yes there are similarities to common red clay. I has been used for centuries as a blood subsitute.

The idea of using blood in rune painting is to bind them to you personally, so that they have a connection to the one using you. I.E., using blood of anything but the magician wouldn't be as effective. Good idea on the gum arabic ingredient, though:)

What a brilliant idea! I handcarved a set of runes out of river stone (it took forever!
did NOT use an electric drill, but diamond dust bits on a hand etcher). The sweat
and tears were certainly there (lots of owies missing the stone and grinding my own
fingers lol)

When I finally found the right set of runes, when I first started, I did a rite and charged
the rune candle with my blood (thanks Kinjo for that needle thingy you mentioned, great idea)
and did a knot binding spell as well as some other "juju"

I also do runic script on my candles when it calls for it, and depending on the rite,
I also charge them with my blood as well as dragon's blood oil or other oils depending again
on the intent.
