My Question is about the sources mentioned in the Grimoire Verum and the Dragon Rouge?

Not all of the demons mentioned are identified. Who are they? Where did they come from? Some infernal spirits are well known anecdotally. And of course the Angels are very famous.

But these Infernal cheifs are not known and neither are their works. Which is not to say they do not have works. But what history can recount them? The time of the publication of these two famous grimoires was in the 1520's (1517 & 1521 respectively).

Contemporary events: the birth and reign of Catherine de Medici. The popular use of the Malleus Mallificarum by the papacy and various other infamous inquisitor's guides by certain unscrupulous parisheners.

So what was really going on in this century? Alot of religious wars. The life of Catherine de Medici (queen of france) was one big battle over the split of the protestant and catholic church. In 1521, Martin Luther was officially declaired an outlaw. During her reign, there was a huge war against the Hugonauts, that ended very badly for everybody in Paris (rivers of blood and all that)

So, is it out of the question to wonder if maybe there had not originally been quite a few such books as the Grimoire Verum and Dragon Rouge, that were consequently destroyed?

The nature of such manuscripts is that they remain in written form until they are published, especially during a time when the printing press was only just coming out. So its not out of the question to assume that these books and others like them existed in manuscript form, in the late 14th C.

The question is: where are the rest of the books? That explain the origins of Satanachia and his subordinates? Where is the history? The explanation? Im sure that it does exist but for various political reasons is not widely published.

If some occult practitioner on this board has or knows of a title that uses and explains these infernal heirarchies in their original context (french is fine), please tell me.

Even letting me know which library to look would be of some help, to narrow the search. It seems very unlikely that these two books are the only of their kind that were ever written. Even a commentary type of book such as Waite's Ceremonial magic (for example) that mentions them and gives some context would be helpful.

Timeline:
1307- 1323, Bernard Gui inquisitor of Toulousel Fr, wrote and used "Practica Inquisitionis" (inquisitors manual) along with the rack.

1347-1351 Black Death, 25 million died

1376 Publication of Directorium Inquisitorium

1431 Joan of Arc burned at the stake
