I have tried this and it works on people who are not sceptics and want to believe in the supernatural. I am sure if you are a good enough hypnotist you can get it to work on anyone. It is kind of frightening.

anyone notice the ding sound when he talks about the ring being the soul, it happens twice. Any hypnotists out there know what he used?

I'm pretty sure the "ding" sound is part of the sound and music that was added after filming. It doesn't seem to have any purpose other than a typical Ericksonian joke hypnotists (especially Brown) are fond of. When he talks about the ring, you hear a ring. Ha ha.

The effect itself was very simple. He took an easily hypnotizable subject and used arm catalepsy to get trance. After that he just had to stay in character.
