Active/passive Magick Options

hi all
while discussing various forms of magick, I said my interest is in the runes at the moment and was told that runes are a passive type of magick in the sense of even through daily ritual the runes are within you but if you felt threatened and needed protection straight away you would have to perform a ritual or bindrune etc and so would useless. is there a active type of magick, where as performing a daily ritual you would be instilling some sort of protection in your aura and when needed could be called upon instantly etc, the protection is only and example and this could be applied to any scenario, sorry if in wrong section, but thought cm would be more suttable.

One of the easiest instant protections is the infamous blank rune. You have got to empower this rune with concentrated vibrations and thoughts of strength and vitality and imbue it with power. Live with this stone. Keep it with you at all times, in your pocket so that you can feel its presence at any time. Learn its shape and feel, texture and even taste. Then put it in with your other runes and with closed eyes, try and find it. Keep on at it until you are right in picking it every time.

Then in times of deep distress or in need the mere thought of the shape of the rune will be sufficient to protect and ward.
