Culture Jam by Kalle Lasn

Kalle Lasn, as some of you may already know, is the founder of Adbusters magazine. He worked as a film maker and became involved with what is know called the 'Jammer' movement after he found that he was unable to get his anti-logging adverts onto the airwaves in Canada despite being willing to pay. He realised that the so-called public airwaves are in fact not public at all but are just a conduit for brand intrusion into every home in America.

In Culture Jam Kalle sets out what he sees as the problems facing us now, his solutions to those problems, and a possible future we may create for ourselves if we choose to act. The bottom line is that Kalle does not want to ban corporate adverts, he just wants to level the playingfield so that non-corporate adverts also get aired...he wants to have his voice heard.

This book is important, it deserves to be read, in fact I would go so far as to say that you need to read this book. Why? Because if you feel powerless in the face of the multinations and governments with their infomercials then this book will show you how to take back the power you let them take away bit by bit as you sat in front of the TV.

This book will probably appeal most to Chaotes. In a way chaos magick is 'jamming' the old magickal culture, so you can take the ideas in this book and apply them to your chaos magick practice (which may be where Generation Hex will take the ball and run with it, we shall see come september).
