Here's a simple poll. Do you time your workings with planetary days and hour?

Please feel free to discuss and expand on this subject.

Only when I use a text which clearly states to make a seal on x day and the hour of x etc.

When making powders I check the appropriate day & hour to make them. Same with talismans..As for evocations, nah.

I tend to use them for all workings if possible. If I for some reason can not wait until the right time, or just can not do it at the right time, then I will come as close as possible. I try to brew potions and make talismans at the right times for sure. Since those are long term things, and I will be keeping them around, I want them done up as powerful as possible.

Rarely since my working largely depend on a quiet house, so they are done when it is quietest here. That said, I attended a workshop on planetary hours and learned how to calculate them for myself and also got handouts on planets. I think I have only used them once though.

When doing a planetary working, I always take note of the correct days and hours. I find that calculating the start and finish of each hour on the days in question, places my head in a different place regarding planetary awareness. I don't think that I would achieve the same benefits if I were to use a computer program to establish the planetary hours for me. The mental calculations and the resulting change in my magical awareness are something that I have come to associate with planetary workings.

You may be right there Motsie and half the fun of magick is the planning and setting things up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Having said that, yesterday I did a working and I thought I was already into the hour I wanted to use, so I did a quick check online, thank goodness I did, I was into it and only just made it in time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/spoton.gif)

I have to admit to being a little lazy about this... For an evocation, which I only do for an extremely large intent, I always use planetary hour and day. For a talisman, they seem to work fine without such care, but if it was a lamen for an evocation or an Enochian working, I would want to make everything as secure as possible. I just do sigils, although I often find out that I'm doing them under Saturn when I look back.

I've never found timing to be any more important than actually doing the spell. Never made much sense to bow down to archetypes that clearly dictate when and where you are supposed to do such and such. You're the magician... You're in control.

I agree with Isaiah, for the most part. Almost all my life astrology has been the one part of of magick i disregarded completely, but I've started looking into it a bit more lately. I'm preparing to do a protection spell combining the use of planetary timing, so I'll see how that goes:)

I do not think that using planetary hours directly effects the experiment (well for the most part), rather it adds to the focus used in the ritual. I believe that calculating the times and doing the ritual accordingly "matches" ones mind to the influences of that planet, thus aiding the ritual.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Have been looking to get into this for a while. When I get to grips with it I'll definately be planning my rituals and other work accordingly.

Have a few sites on this but does anyone know the best place to really get into this?

So far I have
http://www.renaissanceastrology.com

Which seems good... must be some books out there though.
