Every serious student of the occult is familiar with this all-powerful text. Within it lie the secrets of eternity, the forbidden knowledge of the dark unknown.

Every journey into the shadows requires careful, measured steps—a proficient execution of the necessary rituals and spells, and an understanding and appreciation of the history of the world beyond.

The Gates of the Necronomicon is an invaluable companion to the Mad Arab’s original work. In it are essential keys to the nuance and complexities of the ancient grimoire, enabling all who dare to pass through the magical gates that separate the body, mind, and spirit; the past and future; the living and dead.

The journey begins . . .

Simon is a student of magic, occultism, and religion since the mid-1960s and the editor of the Necronomicon, Simon was a frequent lecturer for the famed Warlock Shop in Brooklyn and the Magickal Childe Bookstore in Manhattan for more than ten years before his sudden disappearance in 1984, speaking on topics as diverse as religion and politics, occultism and fascism, ceremonial magic, demonolatry, the Tarot, the Qabala, and Asian occult systems. He also conducted private classes for the New York City OTO during this period, with a focus on Enochian magic, "Owandering bishops," and Afro-Caribbean occult beliefs. An ordained priest of an Eastern Orthodox church, Simon has appeared on television and radio discussing such topics as exorcism, satanism, and Nazism. The media events he organized in the 1970s and 1980s -- with rock bands, ritual performances, and celebrity appearances -- helped to promote the "occult renaissance" in New York City. After decades of study in European, Asian, and Latin American cult centers, this book marks his first public appearance in more than twenty years.

I plan on getting it soon but can't seem to find it. I thought it was supposed to be out already? Has anyone here read it yet or received it? Lastly Ashnook are you writing a book. I think you'd be able to do a good one especially the way you did your site. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Received my copy yesterday in the post. I am up to around page 50-ish. Simon's take on reality/fantasy/sanity/insanity gave me a good chuckle. I hope that he continues to write more books as I really enjoy his style.

I just finished the book right now. I am going to read it once more before I give a review, some things are not clear and need to be reread (mainly because of simons writing style). There is alot of emphisis on the the seven stars of the Big Dipper and it's relation to the gates. I think one will be surprised how simon views the elder and acient ones.

I plan on it eventually. A few others and I have been cataloging notes for a book for nearly a year now but to be honest I would rather explore the system in full before publishing anything.

Greetings,

I got a good laugh out of this.

Pg 175

Jehova was pleased with Abel’s sacrifice of livestock and turned up his nose at the vegetable offerings of Cane.

Cain taking this cue from Jehova thereupon killed abel.

“So you like blood offerings eh?”

Jehova did not think that was funny.

Jehova has no sense of humor.

I'm sorry folks but I haven't gained any enlightment from the replies to this topic.

I have been reading the Necronomicon for a couple of years now ( and have even made my own hand-copy of the book) but have found myself reluctant to attempt the rituals of Gate-walking just yet. I want to and have been trying to prepare myself and materials to do so (I am hand making all my ritual garments and tools) but I would really like to have on hand a more detailed guide of the gate-walking rituals. Therefore, my question -- Is the book "Gates of the Necronomicon" a guide to aid one in practicing the rituals of gate-walking?

i would say its a guide as to when would be best to perform the rituals. It has some good advice in it. Especially from the daoist perspective (which is invaluable in itself) Everything from how to make some items to include their significance. But if your asking if its a walk-through of what you'll see......The answer is no. That will be a personal experience that is unique to each person. You might be able to guess on what will happen but until you walk the gates there is no way for you to know for sure. Just my 2 cents.
If the system is calling to you then when your ready use it.

Thank you, gmcbroom, for your reply. I guess I was not really clear with my question; never-the-less, your did give me some useful information.

I do realize that each person will have a different experience when they walk the gates, just as they would with any other ritual or cerimony. No, what I really want to know is, is the book a more detailed step-by-step guide to the ritual itself? The Necronomicon gives good instructions for the ritual of gate-walking, but I would like more details and helpful hints so that I may better prepare myself to undertake this great rite.

Yes, I do, indeed, feel the pull of the Gods. I have a desire to place myself into their service as a priest, which, of course, requires that I undertake the initiatory rites of gate-walking. I just want to be a little more informed about the ritual itself and the proper materials I may need -- incense ( should it be stick, cone or granular?), lamp oils ( or should I use candles?), offering bread (should it be wheat or barley? should it be round or square loaves?) ???? I realize that I am probably being a little anal with this but it is my belief that the more thought and preparation I put into the ritual itself, the better my results and experience will be.

Anyway, I would like to thank you again, gmcbroom, for your kindly reply.

Hi FastJack
I wanted to reply to you because it sounds like you're getting caught up in the small stuff. To me, a part of the journey is venturing forth even if you're not sure. Make a decision, the spirits want you to be confident and show them who you are. If you have good intent and stay within the basic guidelines of your ritual you will be fine, square or round, stick or cone.
I want share with you about a mistake I made: It was the second or third time I made a request to one of the 50 names. I remembered I had Cedar and that was a desireable incense, so I did the spell, my alter was set up very nice, burned the Cedar, felt like I had done a good job. The next day I found the bowl I used for burning the cedar was upsidedown in the middle of the floor. What I had burned were the cedar leaves and they don't smell very good. It was not done disrespectfully so they let me know that was not right in a way that didn't involve pain or blood. lol
I plan on working with the 50 names for a while before I attempt to walk the gates, but thats just my plan....

Hi, Fiona! Thanks for the reply. You are probably right, I am getting cought up in the fine print (so to speak). But there is, of course, a very serious warning on page 16 of the Necronomicon that seems like very good advice, especially in light of the Mad Arab's final demise. I do not want to make the same mistakes that caused him to lose grace with the Gods. I want to approach Them ( the Gods) in the manner that They have prescribed for Their priest, even if it means going to a little extra trouble or expence just to make sure everything is right. However, you are absolutely correct, proper intentions mean a lot, the Gods can easily descern the intentions of the heart!!!

I, too, have a copy of the Necronomicon Spellbook, but I will not use the ritual described within it. In fact, I refuse to call upon or work with the Fifty Names until I have ascended Lord Marduk's step on the Ladder of Lights (see page 124, paraghraph 3, of the Necronomicon). I take warnings very seriously (I work with chemicals everyday at my place of employment and I always read and strictly adhere to all direction and warning labels), and the ritual mistake that you describe simply reinforces this for me. However, I am very glad to know that you were unhurt in any way, physically, psychologicaly or emotionally (except for maybe disapointment).

But your general point is heard and taken. I will try not to be so anal on the small things -- size and shape of the bread offering, or the form of the incense I use -- unless I can find more detailed and explicite ritual instructions.

Again, Fiona, I would like to thank you for your reply and comments. They are helpful and appreciated!
