I had a dream where I'm standing in this white living room (White walls, white carpet, white furniture ... you name it.)

My mother is showing me a nightstand with peeling paint. She tells me the nightstand needs to be "refinished."

There's a desk in the corner of the room. Sitting on top of the desk is a native American mask and a native American doll.

The wall is partially crumbling away, exposing an enclosed tree branch (painted white, of course.)

Any thoughts on the symbolism behind this? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused012.gif)

WHite is often associated with purity. Though I've heard others say that white in one's aura can represent pain. Perhaps the same could be true about your dream. THe most likely answer is the symbolism is purity. The sub-consciousness has a strange way of revealing symbolism through dreams though. The night stand could represent anything. Pieces of furniture are things of convience they give us comfort. So your night stand may symbolise maybe a relationship that is analogus to something of comfort. You mother would represent your greater consciousness, as in morality - mom knows best so to speak. So you are telling yourself, bassed on what you've learned from your mother that this thing of comfort, this nightstand needs to be fixed. And that to me would hint at a relationship that maybe you've neglecting or has taken a wrong turn or really can't go anywhere else and would be best if it ended. However without more details this nightstand, as a piece of comfort could also represent other things too. Such as a hobby or behavior. Even a type of food or anything else that you enjoy that makes you feel comfortable. The symbolism could additionally mean that maybe the nightstand is inadequet. Like maybe you should get a comfy couch instead. I hope that metaphor makes sense. Basically look at your life and consider things that you consider special as in pure even sacred and try to find something that is either neglected or obsolete and need to be replaced.

Those are my thoughts anyways.

Sorry I didn't finish with the rest of your dream there. Something came up that I had to take care of.

So anyways;

A desk is a prop. As in it props things up. If its old or damaged that can represent in your life that the object it is holding is supported by an old, possibly failing foundation. If its brand new and looks strong then it represents the opposite. Chances are you weren't paying attention though. In your situation what you saw was a native american mask and doll. Because previous dreams you've posted also had native american content I would gesture that it is a part of your heritage or at least your life. Thus what the desk is holdig up could be a part of who you are.

The mask represents a role you play in life. If the mask is that of say a shaman, warrior or tribal priest then that is the role it represents in your life. If you are a historian, palientologist, archologists or just knowledgable about native american culture, any of these could also represent a role in your life. Keep in mind the mask could represent any role you take on in life. It doesn't have to be related to native americans. One thing about masks is that they tend to represent supperficial roles. Ones that we wear for others to see but inside do not really honor that and the truth is kept hidden from others, possibly even the self. Like the desk, the conditiion of the mask also tells you its quality. The same is also true for the doll. So perhaps meditate on this and try to recall the dream and get more details.

The doll could represent the role of somebody else in your life. It could also represent a role in yourself. Perhaps if you do have a superficial role, perhaps its not even related to native americans in anyway, then the doll could symbolize the truth. Who you really are inside or who you really want to be.

As for the crumbling wall. Walls are barriers and in terms of dreams they represent structure, as in personallity traits, religious beliefs, relationships, desires and emotions. The importance of buildings in general is that they represent the entire structure where as other objects, like that desk only represent part of it. Thus crumbling walls would imply the structure represented is comming apart. Perhaps it is old and is under going a change. The tree comming through the wall, to me would support this as objects comming through walls can represent transition; sometimes good sometimes bad. But the nature of the dream seems to demonstrate good, or at least necessary changes.

Over all I'd say the dream represents your higher self telling you to find or do something to comfort yourself while you maybe do some soul searching to really find the real you and adjust to the transition that is comming as a result of this. Also this transition might be something you cannot choose to stop. Maybe all you can do is ride it out. But the repeating white colors I think means that this change or the comming of events is necessary to fnd a greater sense of fullfilment in your life. All you can do is make sure yo uare true to yourself and maintain a sense of comfort.

I hope this post fills in the gaps I missed last night.

It apeared to be fairly new.

It was just situated in the corner.

I heard my cousin mention one time that there was some Native American in our family tree (IMG:style_emoticons/default/red_indian.gif) (What tribe it was, I don't know ... I think it may have been Cherokee.)

I have no idea.

I don't know that much about Native American masks! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

The masks and doll all appeared to be Southwestern (Hopi? Navajo? Apache?)

The masks and the doll were both of good quality. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

"Change" and "transition" have been recurring themes in my dreams recently.
