 Direction, How do you determine where to put the triangle?

The books I have tell you to put the triangle in the quarter that related to the spirit you are evoking. Some of the descriptions make the direction quite clear. Others do not. The only thing I can think of it to evoke in the physical direction of the associated planet at the time of working. Is there a 'usual' way of doing this?
