There's so much talk of the most mysterious books about magick and all. As the all is contained in everything, as is stated by for example the holographic theory in physics, then you can actually realize the all in every instant of so-called time (I bet most of you know this). So everything can be made to be the metaphor of the Creation. Have you noticed the beautiful way that the Harry Potter-books can be seen not only as a metaphor of the Creation (daa (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)) , but also as a definitive way of describing the way of aspiration and initiation. It could be the most enchanting piece of a personal path of attainment. (Such holyness in the world (I am thrilled)) It is like AC:s AHA! but with the attachment of grounding, earthly emotional descriptions of the characteristics of the parts of the aspiring Beeing (the Whole world of Harry Potter). For me it is like the combination of the Bible, Rumi, Tolkien, Aleister Crowley and Daily Living. I just find it to be a highly enlightening description of the path (intended or not by Rowling (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif))

I disagree, but then I'm really critical of Rowling's work, so I may be biased.

I think there are some good values represented in the books, and that the character's seven years worth of growing up is as good a representation of one cycle of growth as any - but as far as a metaphor for initiation, I find it lacking quite a bit.

Harry overcomes personal demons, faces his fears and his adversary, finds his own strength and follows his heart, inspires his friends and draws strength from their support, and comes to understand himself and his relationship to his 'darkside' as it were. And that's all good and well. Harry never, however, turns his face to the higher order in his life - never seeks his inner self, never acknowledges a greater power beyond his magic (no K, Harry...), and never seeks transcendence or even begin to be led there. Either literally or metaphorically. Though the populace of the books ultimately (spoiler alert!)................................................. band together to collectively face the 'darkness' within their own ranks after stages of denial, disillusionment, fear, and righteous anger, they never acknowledge the problem itself, never turn their eyes towards the place of the darkness in their lives or the long term understanding of what they should be doing to understand how all of this happened in the first place.

The magic of harry potter is the setting, the background, the stage and props which are lent to the plot itself. It's given no great significance to harry himself, it's just an aspect of the culture in which he resides.

Beyond that, Rowling's writing style is juvenile and imprecise, her plot relies too much on coincidence and shock, sudden unforeshadowed turns of events, and too many adverbs. Being an aspiring fiction writer I've made quite a study of her work because of it's sheer success - it's largely a matter of clever marketing, she wasn't even the first to write this story. Good for her, work smart not hard, but as a writer she's not talented, just successful. They aren't the same thing. And in the end, she copped out, the mark of someone who never wanted to be a writer, just hit the right chord on the public nerve.

peace

Maeby I wasn't clear enough... I definetly did Not state that Rowling is talented or actually Anything about her value to the metaphor did I talk about. And I did not say that Harry was the initiate (LOL). But what I Did try to say is that the our surrounding world is a perfect metaphor for the Creation and that the Harry Potter books as a World is a Beautiful description of an Individuals aspiration for the divine realisation (the process of the growth of individual characteristics inside the aspiring Beeing, the need for an old part from the past which has to be understood but yet abandoned in order to follow the road through the Abyss etc.). Knowledge, abandoning the reasoning, the fear, the courage... ah, I will have to organize my mind again. This starts to sound like children fighting about their favorite toys and why my toy is better than yours. I wasn't going to prove to anyone the validity of my reasoning. I just find it so marvellous.

(hitting the right chord... well it is an art isn't it, as is clever marketing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif))

I quite frankly doubt that you have actually studied the books as there are things that I thoroughly disagree with your statements about the books:

Seeking transcendence is very individual. For Harry it was enough to listen to Dumbledore. (and I wasn't talking about Harry as the aspirant. I was talking about the whole story beeing the Life of the Beeing in the state of change when inevitable phases of transcendece are at hand!!!)

The "magic" in Harry Potter is for me only the things in life that people don't wish to see. The things that make life "too much" for some. Not everyone is willing to seek aspiration not merely as "life-style" but as Life itself, and that is the way things are when they are harmonious at this stage of universal time.

"How all things happened in the first place". Well we know that there are Many ways to get this through. Closest to my point: 1. Full knowledge then letting go to let Love guide (Dumbledore to Harry). 2. Letting the emotions be Free and Listening to the Heart from the first place (a kind of compromise of 1.) As the 1. is Much easier to put into actual intellectual concept (at least for me, as it is higly dualistic) it serves as a good storyline in any story.

"Juvenile and imprecise". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Well, emotions are somewhat imprecise. And for me it is something that gives a strong feeling of reality and true emotion when the contents and story is not based on pearly words (that has Aleister Crowley already done So Well (meaning that He was a Master of Language amongst other things he was master in) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif))

ps. Thank you Vagrant Dreamer for making me put my thoughts in order!
