People say events in your life shape you into, well, you. But does it also create a whole new conciousness in its wake? Do you somehow get copied with the "copy" stored in the back of your mind as a back up? Does that mean there are multiple versions of ourselves that exist somewhere out of sight? Maybe its one of the reasons why adults are capable of such complex thoughts. Anyone got any insight theyd like to share?

It's funny that I would stumble upon this thread because I am living evidence of this, I have many personalities with different names that have branched from the original, but its not like multiple personality disorder. Its kinda weird and hard to explain but when I have more time to I'll get into it a lot better than this and how they came to be. Some have names and some don't, some die off and some still linger about.

Actually there are many cases where mild mannered people suffer a traumatic head injury and it causes their whole personality to change making them mean and easily angered.
For more information I'd recommend checking out books on Psychology.

That's quite a statement. Do you think the opposite might also apply?

lets say when you were young, like from 8-11years old and that one day you witnessed a man get shot in the head infront of you, would you go and shoot somebody in the head, whether as a young boy or once a grown man yourself. Probably not, but the incident would still have a profound effect on the conscious self which is held together by thin threads which can be easily disturbed, maybe causing one's perciever to shift and have a completely new outlook on life which inturn would bring the person to act differently.
So I would agree that events can alter one's self, or the thing you're refering to as 'you' but 'you' may never have been 'YOU'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/prop.gif)
What I mean is what you see as yourself may simply be all the events that have led up to now, always growing with new event's(good or bad).
Peace
Al
