Hey guys, I need some help interpreting this dream I had last night. I pay special attention to any dream involving a female friend of mine, and this one did. However, unlike normal, I didn't wake with full memory of the dream like I normally do. I'm very disciplined in dream recall and I've been capable of crystal clear memory of a dream immediately after waking for months now. Here's what I could remember this morning when I woke and immediately began logging the dream.

QUOTE
Walking to lunch with best friend as usual. A dark shadow is over her the whole way. We are talking about something thats bothering her, but beyond that I don't understand any words. I notice a sigil in the air, but it is too faint to make out.

Any advice on what I should do from here would be appreciated. The walking to lunch is a routine that me and my friend follow every day. If I can help any further in interpreting this dream, please say.

Maybe your routine needs a change? I remember when I was about your age my best friend and I would do a similar routine. Every day. But the thing was I had more of thing for her and really was just to anxious to say anything. Eventually I broke and asked her out - at first she was reluctant but then we eventually worked it out and we had a relationship for three and half years.

The dark shadow represent some emotion within yourself you are having difficulty expressing (perhaps you care about this person as I did my friend at your age). It can also represent anxiety. Regardless if you have deeper feelings for this person or not I think its safe to say you don't want to loose her. Perhaps there is something looming in your mind that you think might cause you two to separate? (for example one of you is moving, chagning schools, boy friend/girl friend interferance, graduation later down the road) The shadow can also represent fear for her herself, as in you think she's in trouble for some reason. Perhaps she has a no good boy friend or a dead beat father, something that for some reason you feel either cannot or are incapable of protecting her from (hence the looming shadow).

Whats bothering her is why the shadow is over her. Understand this shadow is not evil. In fact it has no sentience at all. It is merely a representation of emotion (probably negative) created by your own psyche. Its your minds way of telling you something that might be important. But the sub-conscious, unfortunately speaks dreams, not english.

The sigil is the answer. You can see it, but you can't make it out. In other words it can represent a solution that you just haven't quite figured out, or are not willing to take.

If there is a problem in her life right now then this dream is about the present. If everything in her life right now is peachy then it could be a premonition foreshadowing future events. Understand from a freudian perspective none of this dream has anything to do with your best friend and everything to do with you. More specifically expressing your feminine side.

Thanks for the help Acid. After talking with my friend I helped sort out the issues going on between us and I haven't had the dream since. The only thing about all this is that I've noticed the sigil in several dreams since. I can always tell it's the same sigil but I can't make it out any more than I could the first time I saw it. Is there any form of exercise I might practice to help bring the sigil into a clearer vision?

IF it were me I would meditate on the dreams in which the sigil was spoted. Since I have a dream journal I would read what I wrote about each dream and use it to recall details. And I mean every detail possible. Then I would start drawing as I see the sigil in an attempt to recreate it in focus. This is just a simple technique and it may or may not work. There is a more complex answer but it really requires either guidance from someone else or the ability to hypnotize yourself to recover supressed memories - not a good idea to do on your own.

I'll try meditating on the dream like you suggested. I do have someone that I trust with hypnotizing me that is remotely skilled at what she does. If you could describe the technique for me I could ask her to help me.

If she already knows how to hypnotize people then I would ask her. Besides instructions for hypnosis are not like instructions for baking a cake. It takes preperation and time. While I could describe the basic principle of hypnosis and give examples on how it works I could even find litterature on the subject. But there's no way I could safely just say "do this and expect that" too many variables - especially when it comes to the power of suggestion and planted thoughts or memories.

Power of suggestion is where a person feels compelled/influenced to behave or think certain things based on subtile ques given from another source. For example - person gets sick and goes to work and tells everybody they're sick. Next day more people come to work sick. On a sub-concsious level they think there is an illness going around and therefore the appropriate reaction for the body is to get sick. While some make actually get the illness some will only think they are sick.

Another example - spells. One person tells another they cast a spell on them, say a curse. Well the person who's cursed believes they are under supernatural powers and thus blames bad things that happen to them on magick, not coincidence.

Planted memories are a bit more controvertial. The basic idea is that when people recover memory through regressive hypnosis they do so under the guidence of the hypnotist and so what they actually remember is as a result of the hypnotist, not the mind. In other words many people who believe they've been abducted by aliens go to a hypnotist. Generally the person already believes they've been abducted, they just want to remember it. Thus they go to the hypnotist and they guide the person through "imagry" thats suppose to be memories. The human imagination doesn't just make up random images it puts things into a context, sort of like dream. So they go through these images believing they are suppose to be of an abduction experience not realizing its just a product of their own imagination. And this is really why hypnotism it self is a controvertial subject.

Hypnotism is where a subject willingly allows their attention to focus on something like a candle, pendulum, finger. And while they focus on what ever object the hypnotist gradually instructs them to relax, slow their breathing, even their heart rate, then close their eyes in this relaxed and focused state. While the eyes are closed they are further instructed to visualize a peaceful place and something like say stars forming an unfocused word that they are gradually told to see spells out sleep - the subject then falls into a state where they think they are asleep, but yet concious enough to speak and carry out commands. - like bark like a dog, or wake when I snap my fingers. In reallity the subject is just playing along. They may not even realize it because the idea is they are under hypnosis and thus they are under the control of the hypnotist - the power of suggestion.

If you were really interested in hypnotism I would see a specialist. The danger is that you might misinterpret ques or things from your sub-concsious may tell you something is real when its really not.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out Acid. Thanks to your suggestions I've decided to spend a week using my meditation time to focus on this sigil and try to discover what it is in my mind. It'll be safer for me and I think it'll be a bit more accurate than hypnosis for me. If there's anything you could suggest on how I should focus on the sigil in my meditation I'd appreciate it, thanks again!
