I discovered a special marble the other day, a tiny little sphere of glass hiding in the tangled weeds. I made a wish on it; I wished that everything conceivable was achievable. My wish was not granted though, because not everything conceivable is achievable, because there is no magic.

...or at least not where I am. I been looking for the phenomenon for years now without success. Found a lot of preachers, but nobody who could put any meat behind their bones. On one hand nothing is more important to the lives of me and everyone, than finding magic. On the other hand that which doesn't exist can't be found. Those conflicting ideas have totally screwed up my mind. So this post is a warning as well as an introduction. Though by nature a happy person I've been under the curse too long to keep my spirits up, so what I say may be upsetting, and it may conflict with your belief system. I can assure you I'm doing nothing more than an honest and desperate search for the one thing I need most, an escape clause, but I understand how you might see things differently from watching me on the outside.

Raah, take that bad mood! *opens fire*

Greetings! Welcome to our happy Forum...*grin*
Magic is where you find it, usually just a turn away. To me, it's in everything I do. It's at this point my diatribe starts sounding abit dogmatic/preachy. I wish you luck in finding your Magic. I hope that you will find it through the wonderful people here (or elsewhere, too, for that matter). But you may wish to have an ongoing dialog with yourself as to what you think 'Magic' is and whether or not you have set your expectations too out of synch with the universe. On a personal note, I'm a pantheist. I see 'God' in EVERYTHING! Magic, IMHO, cannot exist without belief. Now I'm not pushing religon...I'm pushing spirituality. One must be open to the idea of Magic for you to be able to experience it. It will not shape itself to our whim like ordering food at a drive thru window....at least, not always. (huh?) I'm speaking in circles, so I'll shut up now.
Here is a lovely poem by Leonard Cohen that is very pertinent. Buffy Ste. Marie puts it to song on her albom 'Enchantments'

1...

God is alive; Magic is afoot
God is alive; Magic is afoot
God is afoot; Magic is alive
Alive is afoot.....
Magic never died.

God never sickened;
many poor men lied
many sick men lied
Magic never weakened
Magic never hid
Magic always ruled
God is afoot
God never died.

God was ruler
though his funeral lengthened
Though his mourners thickened
Magic never fled
Though his shrouds were hoisted
the naked God did live
Though his words were twisted
the naked Magic thrived
Though his death was published
round and round the world
the heart did not believe

Many hurt men wondered
many struck men bled
Magic never faltered
Magic always led.
Many stones were rolled
but God would not lie down
Many wild men lied
many fat men listened
Though they offered stones
Magic still was fed
Though they locked their coffers
God was always served.

2..

Magic is afoot. God rules.
Alive is afoot. Alive is in command.
Many weak men hungered
Many strong men thrived
Though they boasted solitude
God was at their side
Nor the dreamer in his cell
nor the captain on the hill
Magic is alive
Though his death was pardoned
round and round the world
the heart did not believe.

Though laws were carved in marble
they could not shelter men
Though altars built in parliaments
they could not order men
Police arrested Magic
and Magic went with them,
for Magic loves the hungry.

But Magic would not tarry
it moves from arm to arm
it would not stay with them
Magic is afoot
it cannot come to harm
it rests in an empty palm
it spawns in an empty mind
but Magic is no instrument
Magic is the end.

Many men drove Magic
but Magic stayed behind
Many strong men lied
they only passed through Magic
and out the other side
Many weak men lied
they came to God in secret
and though they left him nourished
they would not say who healed
Though mountains danced before them
they said that God was dead
Though his shrouds were hoisted
the naked God did live

3...

This I mean to whisper to my mind
This I mean to laugh with in my mind
This I mean my mind to serve 'til
service is but Magic
moving through the world
and mind itself is Magic
coursing through the flesh
and flesh itself is Magic
dancing on a clock
and time itself the magic length of God.

Yes, yes it does. I forgive you though; it's a temptation for all of us to preach to unhappy people. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Oh my expectations are totally out of synch, sorry. I've learned enough about thermodynamics to know that anything even close to what I'm thinking about is "impossible". Doesn't stop the thinking about it though, or diminish its importance. I think magic is an uncertainty to existence, something that defies explanation, a contradiction in terms that cannot be resolved. Basically what I'm talking about is the failure of causality. I know you'd prefer I say how magic is what we all feel deep in our heartball that makes us feel good and wise and stuff. That stuff's easy to find, and plentiful. My magic's a lot harder to find though.

It is a very lovely song! I do wish things like that were true.

The software that we use to communicate started with a concept, and all software could be even be considered the mechanical concepts of a computer. Plus, everything from your dwelling to your clothes to your computer are concepts given material form. It's really bizarre to realize everything around you was just a thought of someone at some time.
With the exception of nature... or maybe not?

Greetings,

Well sense everyone else has been rather ambiguous I'll take an opposing stance. Try keeping to simple, carefully worded goals, as they are easer and most can will them to manifest. It will also help if you define a long time frame- especially in the beginning- the longer the frame the more will is acting on it, and success is more likely.

I been looking for the phenomenon for years now without success.

I mean no offense, but it is likely you found it, and then promptly dismissed it. One of the most difficult things is not dismissing results because the earth doesn't shake. In my own experience a journal is an inexhaustible help. Mine reads more like statistical analyses, but that is what I am, eternally skeptical. It helps present very clearly the cumulative effects, which in turn foster expectation. Here I will interrupt the prevailing philosophy: belief is a symptom of will and so is expectation- the only difference is in which end of the problem one works from. Expectation starts with nothing but builds up, while belief starts at the top. From your first post it seems likely you are skeptical and convincing skeptical people to believe is difficult so expectation may be a better rout to go.

I do hope this has help with that; there is of course much ‘meat’ out there- to continue your analogy- everything from axioms and law to theories, but for that it is best to read.

Not at all, things are more harmonious than they first appear, and people take things in stride here, again welcome to our forum.

We contemplate that reality in which everything exists, to which everything belongs,
from which everything has emerged, which is the cause of everything and which is everything....
The light of [this] self-knowledge alone illumines all experiences. It shines by its own light.
This inner light appears to be outside and to illumine external objects.
