Hi everyone

I have been reading posts etc for several months and decided I would join my first ever forum (!). I am Irish but living abroad at the moment. I have a rather eclectic solitary magickal practice: I initially started in my teens with candle magic, pagan witchcraft, then seven years ago working a lot with chakras, Hindu deities, zen meditation etc. in the last four years I have been combining this with High Magick which has become the main path I follow.

I had suffered serious trauma in the past, and the main crux of my practice has been to resolve issues and gain insight and seek enlightenment (and give healing to others). However, I need to start empowering myself to be more forward-looking rather than backward-looking (and problem-oriented).

So, that's me.

Am off to look for some advice ...

Congratulations on taking the plunge and welcome aboard, this is a great board to be a part of.

I’ll give some advice on board concepts.

I’m just as guilty of the next guy in ignoring all of these, but I try and keep them in mind.

General boards: these are things to keep in mind on any board.

1. Don’t take anything personally, anonymity is a dual edged sword where ideas can be exchanged freely, but also stupidity.
2. If the information is important to you, verify it.
3. Don’t get into heated arguments…it makes you look silly.
4. Always imagine the person you are communicating with is an awkward 12 year old or 40 year old living with mom and dad, and has not moved on from the awkward 12 year old stage in his mental development.
5. Spelling and grammar is important, but calling others on it is poor form. Simply be courteous and try to verify what you post makes sense when read.
6. Try and stay on topic, if the topic was on how to summon a sylph, don’t change it to wind disasters at picnics.
7. everyone on the internet is a God and a Flake.

This board in general.

1. Search is king, use it and enjoy.
2. Accept that you will sometimes have to wait for a response, or you may never get the type of response you are looking for.
3. Remember that there are people of all faiths and backgrounds here, be respectful.
4. Don’t judge information based on posters name, age, location…judge it on their past posts and how true it rings for you. Then verify if it is actionable information.
5. Don’t feel stupid when you leave something out of a post, or overlooked something. If people catch it, no problem, if they don’t post again and explain what you overlooked.
6. View all the forums, you will be surprised where you find good information.
7. Managing your forums (marking all as read) makes finding new posts easy, even if it is a pain to do the first time.

Hope that helps. And again welcome.

Thank you for the big welcome, Paxx.

Your tips for using the forum should be publicised all over the web I think. I decided to take the plunge as I am living somewhere where I know of no other practitioners and as my magickal works are becoming increasingly significant and challenging, I hope to find more stimulation and guidance and share experiences through this forum. I have already been using the search function - there is so much information and useful practical techniques, I am overwhelmed.

Well, I hope not to commit too many of the cardinal sins of the forum, at least not on my first day.

Welcome Lily,
Being on a forum for the first time can be frustrating at first at the least.
Don’t give up do.
There is a lot of info to assimilate here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bigwink.gif)
