 What Power Would You Choose
If it was just these what would it be?
Of the following powers, choose one power that you could use at will, was always 100% reliable what would it be. Assuming you had no other abilities other then mundane ones. And using it required as much energy as walking fast.
Invisibility (all passive senses including vision, hearing and such as well as mechanical systems) [ 7 ] ** [11.29%]
Flight (at up to 100 MPH or 160 KmPH, not able to carry more then you can jogging) [ 7 ] ** [11.29%]
Telekinesis (1 object up to 100 pounds 45.36 Kg with writing accuracy, max speed 10 MPH or 16 KmPH and 100 yard/meter range) [ 7 ] ** [11.29%]
Telepathy (read others thoughts and communicate with them, all terrestrial beings, line of sight) [ 12 ] ** [19.35%]
Teleportation (once every 3 minutes, open ground only, able to carry no more then you can jogging.) [ 9 ] ** [14.52%]
Total body shape control (can change to any shape, but same body mass as you have strength dependant on adjustment and leverage, but same overall body strength) [ 11 ] ** [17.74%]
Finder (know the direction and distance of anything you wanted) [ 1 ] ** [1.61%]
Pass through solids (walk through walls or floors, able to take as much as you can carry jogging) [ 2 ] ** [3.23%]
Know the history of any item touched (including people, as detailed as you wish) [ 6 ] ** [9.68%]

Just something silly I was surprised to not see here already, if you can give reasoning for the choice all the better.

For me it has to be teleportation...the commute to work alone would be worth any of the other ones. Though all of them would be fun for many reasons.

Telepathy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Sure attempting to communicate with superconscious god-forms might not be a good idea, but the benefits far outweigh the risks. And besides, you can do everything else on there through other methods, but most people's minds are like fortresses with carefully guarded gateways of encoded communication.

Shape shifting, totally. Even with the arbitrary limit on body mass it's still an awesome power. I've wanted to be something besides this shape for a loooooong time now. On the other hand, teleportation is the real super power, more than shape shifting. I'd just want other people teleporting themselves around, wouldn't need it myself. I'd probably study how their power worked though, and rig up a machine that would teleport things around. The existence of teleportation would mean that the universe is not closed, has curl, and pretty much that one can violate the laws of thermodynamics and get a free lunch.

most definately shape shifting I could be as free as I want to be, and the restrictions still open a lot of doors. one question. would the limit preclude becoming a larger creature at all, or would you just be a smaller one of them?

My thinking on the restriction was that you could assume a larger or smaller shape, but your mass would be about the same…so if you wanted to become an elephant…you are going to be a very weak one…but you would look just like one.

If you become a tiny mouse, you will be a very dense and heavy one, so scurrying up thin plywood would not be a good idea.

A bird, would require some assessment to get the right wingspan and such. However there is nothing stopping you from being other fun things as well…just you are not transforming into something, you are adjusting your body into that shape and color.

Invisibility sounds fun especially after seeing Hallow Man but if I can't turn back to visible... nah I think I'll pass on that.

Flight would save on gas like teleporting and man going that fast would be a rush. I don't think NORAD would be too thrilled though. Besides why fly if you can teleport? On the other hand I could pick up people I don't like and drop them from 3000 feet in the air. Course I would want to fly that high because it gets real cold.

Telepathy would be useful because then I could tell if a girl would go on a date with me before I actually asked her out and made a fool of myself. But what if I couldn't help but read people's minds? Imagine trying to drive down the free way or being in a stadium or somewhere with lots of people. You probably couldn't even hear your own conscienceness, even if the ability was only in line of sight. That and I bet some people have some pretty twisted thoughts running through their heads - tmi.

Teleportation would make flying obsolete. But then all my friends would want me to take them places. And I wonder what would happen if you accidentally teleported into a wall or some other object - according to physics matter cannot occupy the same space and time.

Being able to shape my body in anyway is VERY tempting. Lets just say I could get real kinky with that. But what if its like crossing your eyes too much? What if you get stuck in some god aweful shape and can never return to normal? I'm physically abnormal enough.

I could really use that finder ability. I do get lost easily and I could use it to find treasure or atlantis or something cool like aliens lurking amongst us. But we have GPS so close enough.

Passing through solids would be cool because then I could rob fort knox or peer into the women's shower at the gym. But what would keep me from passing through the ground and getting sucked to the core of the earth? Gravity is a bitch sometimes.

While I deffinately am a seeker of knowledge there are just somethings I don't want to know. I mean think about it. Ever time you touched someone (which would also be a sort of telepathy by the way) you'd know their deepest, darkest, sickest, most perverted thoughts AND experiences. It would be an effective way to black mail people though.

So I picked telekinesis. That way I wouldn't have to get up to get a beer from the fridge and I could do cool things like undress and dress myself, redirect my pee to make a bank shot, make a magickal luggee, "accidentally" undo cutie's bra at random, stop bullets and disarm people amung many other things. That and every time my dog gets loose all I'd have to do is use my powers to bring her back inside. Better not let the neighbors see though. They may cry witch and try to have me burned at the stake.

Ah yeah and I could still pick up and drop people I didn't like. Or at least give them a nasty shove or something.

I chose telepathy, because it would help me to better understand people and their motives. I'm already pretty good at determining what people are thinking and I could make an argument that I already possess a subtle form of telepathy, but it's weak, operates passively and hard for me to harness consciously. I was much better with it when I was younger. SeekerVI mentioned that "most people's minds are like fortresses with carefully guarded gateways of encoded communication," and that's an excellent way of putting it. Even with telepathy, what you are receiving may be just that: the walls of someone's mental fortress. Minds are complex things and sometimes we aren't even sure what we're thinking. Quite often in life we think we're doing things for one reason, which sits in an obvious position near the surface, and find in retrospect that we were really being driven by something else buried much more deeply.
To possess telepathic abilities able to reliably bore through that wall of surface thoughts and unfailingly retrieve information from the core of a person's mind would be to hold great power, for good or ill.

Knowing things by touching objects/people. I don't mind car trips, hate wind burn, telepathy would be cool, but kind of suck at the same time; I already don't like what I get from most people's thoughts, and that's not much. Telekinesis sounds good in theory, and would be fun, but doesn't really enrich one's life in any way besides that fun factor (worth a lot, granted). However, being a reall sensitive, accurate touch-know has potential for all sorts of things, besides just your own education. Imagine holding a dinosaur bone, or a relic from the mayan civilization. You'd make bank as an archaeologist, curator of a museum, or a psychic advisor. Wonder who penned that supposedly genuine grimoire? Wonder if that watch was stolen? Wonder what happened to the person who owned that bloody scrap of sweater found in the ditch near the river? Who pulled the trigger of the murder weapon?

Having nifty magick tricks is all good and well, makes life easier and all, but knowledge is invaluable, and that's something you can do good with while still making a living and enriching your own existence all at once.

peace

Telepathy by touching.
I'm not surprised many others didn't choose this one considering how fun or useful in comparison the other choices would be. I'm more of a social being and theres no better way in my opinion of getting closer to someone else, negatively or positively than knowing everything they've been through. Keeping that knowledge to myself, I can conquer their being in a positive way.. make them at peace. Theres no better solace than to hear the only comforting words you could think of come from the mouth of another without them knowing why the person would ever want it said. And of course, having this power with them being none the wiser, peace on their part is astonishingly so attainable. =D I'd sacrifice the feeling of negative experiences from anyone as long as they would deserve what peace I would give them.

To know the history by touch and I concede that the application of the thing is both use full and fun, but I enjoy knowledge above all else. For me, to know the history of any item touched would provide the insight in to subtle interactions often missed when one doesn’t know the whole story. When I first answered the poll I was reminded of Baron Samdi, who draws his wisdom from all that pass the crossroads. Then I was reminded of Frasier who said, “it maybe a fool who doesn’t learn from his own mistakes but it is a dammed fool doesn’t learn from others’!”

Touching post, by the way, Priest.

We contemplate that reality in which everything exists, to which everything belongs,
from which everything has emerged, which is the cause of everything and which is everything....

This inner light appears to be outside and to illumine external objects.

Each power has its bad side.

Invisibility - You may end up seeing something you weren't meant to see, or should never see.

Flight - You think you're never gonna hit anything? Also, what if someone sees you? Have fun explaining it to the government when you get captured.

Telekinesis - Dropping a hammer on your foot by accident. But ten times as heavy. Not fun.

Telepathy - You would probably begin listening to other peoples' thoughts without even realizing it. You'd either go mad from voices in your head or something.

Teleportation - Miscalculate your destinationan and you're inside solid matter. Ow.

Shapeshifting - Get stepped on, shot by a hunter, etc.

Finder - Seems safe, but you may be led into a trap if anyone knows your power.

Pass through solids - Sleepwalking to the center of the earth. 'nuff said.

Know history - Brush up against a friend by accident, find out they murdered 10 people or something to that effect.

That said, my vote goes for telekinesis. A bit slower than flight, but you could still fly anywhere. Bend solid matter out of the way instead of passing through it. Don't find an item by it's location, just draw it towards you. Several powers in one.

Teleportation for one major reason, freedom from any sort of captivity. No prison can hold a teleporter.

Trust me on this one; imagine escaping from solitary confinement in a third world jail, and ending up in Canada, without going through customs, without even leaving any evidence that will hold up in court.

What a sweet power.

My second choice was telepathy, for the sheer value of communicating with wildlife. (and gossiping with wolves!)
