Chains, fire, and darkness characterize the conditions of the damned.
The chains imply restriction, the fire is anguish, and the darkness is uncertainty and emptiness.
Obstinate spirits, and those who betray you, are given these three curses. The first curse, called the Chain Curse or "General Curse Against Spirits That Rebell" is accomplished by preparing a box of black wood filled with sulphur and assafoetida along with the seal of the spirit, with a chain wrapped around the box and the curse spoken. The second curse requires a small fire, over which the chained box is held on the blade of the sword. The third or Greater Curse binds the spirit by depriving it of celestial lights, and condemning it to suffer, and involves setting the box and its contents on the fire itself.

QUOTE(bym @ Jul 11 2007, 01:36 PM) Yup! I used lead to form the box (I also used iron). If you read the Lemegeton it should give you a description of the box and its contents (sulfur, asafoetida and the recalcitrant spirits sigil) and the curse(s)...Its all there in B&W!!! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/flame.gif) Can you tell me, bym...Hypothetically, in the case of a residential haunting...if you evoked the spirit that was causing problems there, and could either determine a sigil for it or had an old photo of the deceased person in question, and put that in the box, what effect would burning that have? Would it be the same as the Greater Curse, except applied to that spirit? I'm wondering if these curses could be adapted for use against ghosts, is all.

Dear 'Petrus,'
This would most unwise, if I may say.
If you do not correctly identify the spirit you WILL run into some MAJOR problems if you attempt to 'evoke' it. In fact, you will be 'provoking it' and have TWO beings to deal with at the SAME TIME! Do not even consider doing this unless you know what you're doing--this is nothing short of dangerous. Also, the last thing on earth you'll want to do is rely on some 'made up ritual' by you to cast a ghost out of the home and worst use a part of the Grimoires out-of-sync with its original purpose. If you start 'mixing' systems you'll see what results will come about--none at all or things will just worsten.
Yes, what I am telling you is that in order for the "Curse of Chains" to bind a spirit, you will have to have to be in FULL CONTROL of that spirit, and what that means is that you will have to perform an evocation to physical manifestation CORRECTLY and without the influence of your 'feel-good" emotions or this new age garbage that will produce NOTHING! You do it right or wrong. That's it.
I would consult a Catholic priest to come in and bless the house FIRST, then keep in touch with him making sure that the problem has been eliminated. An exorcism may need to be performed and permission sought by the bishop of that particular diocese.
Most Sincerely,
Mr. Curi
