I believe that black draws energy, but i dont think it has anything to do with satanism.

Hence why the handle of the Athame should be black, to draw energy from you and project it.

And besides that, i like the color black and wear it often =)

I dont think its evil.

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyre all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens evry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then Ill fade away and not have to face the facts
Its not easy facin up when your whole world is black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin comes

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!

I'm Gothic and I wear black all the time. Black is my favourite colour.

Black is not entirely the colour of Satanism.

Satan's colour is Red.

Black is the colour of the abyss, darkness, and thus the "unknown".

We Gothics wear black because we have a connection with "darkness" (unless you have this connection you just won't understand).

Black is also the colour of being "misunderstood" thus looked at as "evil" by the majority. For me, black is a colour of understanding, spirituality, and higher level connection.

Greetings and salutations,

Black is my favorite color. In the Necronomicon the priest is instructed to wear a black robe.

I consider white the color of evil.

After all isn't that the color of the Christians Baptism robes? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I rest my case.

I don´t think black is the colour of evil or necessarily satan. The soil from which everything grows is (normally) black, and the night sky with all the heavens there is black. If black is both above and below, then (in my philosophy) it must represent pretty much everything.

Black itself is just a color it doesn't symbolize anything but black. Though black can be used to symbolize other things like Saturn, Goths, vampires, hell, the abyss, raven/crows and on and on. Iit also can be incorperated into satanism just as any other color.

I think black (the color) is
the color for elemental Earth
the color of satan(ism)
the color of goths
the homogeny of all (symbolic)
the color of night (oooh . . scary)
the color of christianity
the native american color of the direction (choose one)
the color of generalizations
the color of stereotyping
the color between photons
the color between both your neurons
the "color" of lesser castes
called negro in Portugal (not like the brown people we call black )
the color of graduation robes
the color of death (like night . . . scary)
the color of deep water
the color of The Deep Waters

Thanks Acid !!!

the color of . . . well, the color of the color black.

I voted maybe because it can be used to symbolize satan, but than again so can anything else. If black represents satanisim it is because someone chooses to use it to represent it. That's what symbols are. But in the end, it's just a color.

Greetings Blood Thirst and All,

What I have heard from some who are into Prismic Colors such as Hobby Painters is that the Color Black is a combination of all Colors.

In a Qabalistic Sense the Third Sephirah of the Highest Supernal Triad is Binah, meaning Understanding. Binah's Color is Black.

One fact for certain, Catholic Priest's wear Black with the white Collar at the throat. And although I don't revere catholic Priests except with the same reverence I have for all Life, I wouldn't consider them Evil or Satanic.

I definitely like the Color Black, especially when my Lady is wearing Black Lace.

Respectfully,
Helel (Joseph)

True.

Black is the coalescing of all colours, and white is the absence of all colours, lets leave it at that!

The stereotypical Satanist that comes to my mind is one who wears a cerimonial robe that is black with a blood red interior or boarder and an inverted pentagram or cross necklace. When it comes to Satanism, the typical color scheme I think of is black, red and silver. However what Satan's favorite color is I have no clue as I have never met the guy or girl?...

The association of color is a very personal process, and it can also be a cultural one. For instance, while black is often associated with death in the West, some places in the East, like China, associate white with death.

I agree with those that stated that the color black can have many different connotations and uses, depending upon the individual and his or her feelings about the color.

Modern Satanism(Think LaVey and Manson) is just Atheism with a philosophy. Most prefer the color black because of the conotation most cultures have for it. If the Jewish/christian/muslim ideology wasn't the dominant religion on the planet, they'd be something else(perhaps Saturnites if roman gods had taken over, Lokeans if the Norse had[if Snorri is to be believed], and maybe Setists if the Egyptian pantheon reigned supreme). Theistic Satanism(aka Devil Worship) is a whole other animal and your answer will vary by tradition.

Theistic Satanists usually have a similar philosophy to that of Laveyists, but the deity they usually worship is also an actual deity, ie. Lucifer, Azazel, Set, Pan, etc.

Greetings 'Phoenix',

It is true that in the mind of one who worships Satan Black could be such a symbol.

A lot of people besides just devil worshipers use black robes in their rites however.

Peace!

I think it has whatever symbolism one wants it to have. To a Satanist, black is satanic. To a Taoist, it's Yin.

Black is not even really a coulour, it is what occurs when there is an absence of light. As this is a natural occurance I think that it can be associated with many beliefs yet it can not be a representative of any one belief. well it makes sence to me anyway.

A color can be no more evil than an element. Black is technically a perfect color (I call it the BEFORE). If you take away all light, you have an absence of color and light (black). The most important card in the Tarot deck is ZERO, the FOOL, who contains within him ALL the other cards -- and is associated with both black and green (black for pre-creation (BEFORE) and green for impending creation (AFTER)).

Fire, Earth, Air, Water -- none are evil. How can black be evil or associated with anything evil? It's as pure and perfect as you get.

WHITE on the other hand is a quite negative color in some ways (it's not really a color either) -- in Daoism, they where WHITE to FUNERALS (but that's not evil in itself, it's just change). So, really, no color is evil, but black is perhaps the most perfect of all colors -- it contains within it ALL the other colors-- AND NO COLORS (absence) making it truly perfect-- represents the Ain Soph, pre-creation, YIN (FEMALE energy) where white is YANG (male creative energy). All in balance is good. Black especially.

Also black as a sacred color FAR PREDATES any Satanic associations. Black predates Christ, Buddha, Satan, all the gods... it is the BEFORE.

I think that the color white is used by Christians (of which I am one) b/c it is the absence of all color, thus it represents the absence of self, or in the terms of the church "complete surrender to something greater than yourself". Black, though, is the presence of all color and can thus symbolize will and intellect, etc. Plus its a cool color. And yes, black is often interpreted as evil; when I bought my first black shirt my parents asked me if I was becoming a goth (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) To this day, I loathe shopping for clothes because she wants me to wear gaudy colors that don't match my personality, yet constantly opposes wearing what I actually like.
