Hello every, I have a question on the conjuration of the watcher. The Nec says "and the Sword of the Watcher, with his Sigil engraved there upon," must the Watchers sigil literally be engraved on the sword, or can it be drawn on, or am I misreading this section?

Many thanks.

Many people have opted to paint the sigils upon the sword, however there is a value to engraving that should not be discounted.

I bought a simple engraving tool from an art supply store for a mere 20 u.s. dollars. It is perfectly suited to the purpose. Simply outline the sigil in pencil and the 'color' it in with the engraving tool. Give it a once over afterwards with some polish and it'll turn out fine.

Alternately there are more complicated acid-engraving techniques just as cheap to obtain from an art supply store, but they are more complicated.

The act of engraving the sword grants some power of connection between your own psyche and the magickal object, so give it some consideration.

Thank you for informing me of these engraving tools. I actually have a friend who's learning to sword smith and within half a year or so I may be able to get properly (although beginner quality) forged and engraved swords, daggers, etc.

I have another question, though it has nothing to do with this subject specifically. For the metal seals of the Gods of the 7 Gates, how did you all get this material? Were you able to find somewhere that sells plates of the various metals and you just engraved them yourselves? I'm starting to prepare of a list of the materials I'm going to need for walking the first Gate and this subject is a major hang up (especially the gold seal for Lord Shammash when/if I get to him (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif))

Many thanks once again.

There are plenty of sources online for the materials to make the plates. I only made the first two gate seals, and found the plates from a local dealer here, but if you look online for metal dealers, it should take long to find a resource.

One of the members here, Athena, has a website that sells metal disks, you might enquire in that direction.

peace

I collect swords. I use whatever feels appropriate when I use the Bandar. Or just grab whatever is lying around. After all the time i have spent polishing my swords I shudder at the thought of engraving or painting on one of my Tachi. I do not think Bandar minds. Not that it really matters since I am his master. Albeit a good master as he is a good and kindly Watcher likr the lord that hath made me. If its any consolation I have his symbol drawn on my Shinai. <Bamboo practice sword.> This keeps it from getting accidentally picked up by someone else in my Kenjutsu dojo.
