Title gives it away... we as human beings speak many diffrent languages on this planet even though our needs are universal... living in London (baby yeah!) rubbing shoulders with people from many diffrent places I've been thinking about the power of telepathy and wether or not it surpasses cross cultural language barriers. Know that I'm ''psychic'' pick up on this and that and have had interaction with people who don't speak 'a de' english in such a way but its always baffled me so I pose it here for debate....

Does your psychic ability cross lingustic barriers.... can you pick up peoples thoughts even though they don't speak your language?

If so, and I do belive it happens going by my experiences (kind of take the ability for granted, don't rely on it at all) the intresting point of call would be the translation, for someone to be thinking in their native language but for another person to then pick it up in theirs says a lot, excuse the pun... that is if others agree with me and note that they also pick up on others thoughts past language diffrences in such a way.

Intresting to note also that in some shamanic cultures in order for the shaman to prove his or her worth they much go through several tests, one such test is the sudden ability to speak a neighbouring dialect without being versed in it beforehand. Think its also a feat someone pulls off in the bible. Anyway.. has anyone here noted anything to this effect?

Peace
.M.

I believe so. My experiences with telepathy have been centered on pure conceptual knowing, rather than 'hearing a voice' as it were. I don't think real telepathy involves words - we do not keep words stored in the same places in our brains (that is, the pattern of neurons that lights up upon hearing or speaking the word 'banana' is different for different people, although in the same region), and I don't believe it is our brains that communicate telepathically, but our consciousness. It is the same reason I believe it is easier to communicate telepathically by images - colors are processed in the same places in everyone's brain.

Not much more to say on that note.

peace

Telepathy doesn't use linguistics in order to work. As Vagrant alluded to, telepathy involves the use of 'pictures' in order to communicate. The Curse of Babel was supposed to be the removal of ones ability to commune with one another in this fashion and make Man dependent upon his own verbal dialect/language...this also included communication with all other forms of life as well. Telepathy not only operates through pictures but also through 'feelings'...both emotive and sensory. We tend to bypass the speech center of the brain and communicate in other means available.

telepathy
Noun
the direct communication of thoughts and feelings between minds without the need to use normal means such as speech, writing, or touch [Greek tele far + pathos suffering]

As this definition suggests (and I don't necessarily agree with) telepathy involves all non-sensory communication. This would eliminate all forms of communication because we utilize the senses in ANY form of communication.

Now that I've thrown mud into clear water...telkepathy transcends voice/vocal communication through use of non-ordinary methods of sensory stimulation. Most people are able to 'read' such signals as body-language to convey/interpret communication from others. Transmittal of emotive thoughts and paranormal methods of image conduction could be considered a form of 'telepathy'. Magicians get their panties in a bunch when thinking about communication with spirit because they don't often think that communication is usually transmitted by use of imagery or even strong emotive force. This is a good reminder for all here to keep up with exercises in visualization and learning to differentiate between emotions and 'feelings'. These 'feelings' quite frequently are used as tools of communication. Consider the octopus whose use of phytochemivcals and color are its means of talking...or the plants use of pheremones and other chemicals which perform similar functions.
*sigh* not particularily articulate but, hopefully, demonstrative of my intentions...

See your point, have always regarded telepathy as being an energy matter (excuse the pun), emotion, thought patters and so on are all forms of energy so a telepathic person is able to discren said energy to their benifit.

Would either of you say that you have experiences telepathy or psychic activity past linguistic barriers.... understanding that when speaking in energy terms there are no such barriers, we all function the same for the most part. We're not far off from patenting an instant translation device here. .lol.
