In all my reading and understanding of the many different avenues of the occult, a mutual factor has always been present. That factor is meditation. What I've been led to believe is that meditation can pretty much get you to where you're going, to the end. To the betterment of the self, hence your goal. If meditating holds such power, I was wondering what most of these other avenues of magick really do for the practitioner.

I'm not downgrading any other forms of magick, simply inquiring as to their purpose in life in comparison to meditation. I understand different aspects of magick, different wills and goals lead to different things and through different means however the end result is still the same and can be achieved through meditation alone. Or so I've been led to believe. Especially considering that meditation is a common part of most magickal practice, what makes the all powerful method of enhancing oneself to become yet another tool for the practicing magician? Again, I'm just curious and it's a question that's been on my mind. Something like, "Why do all this, if you can just do this and ultimately get the same results?".

outside the parthenon in nashville, tennessee are two trees - the bark on these two trees is twisted in opposite directions, like some force has been twisting them since they grew there - it is an energy vortex that links two worlds, our physical world here and another unknown physical world - like a broken elevator that opens on two floors at once, both worlds are overlaid at that point in space-time, and the energy currents of the joining cause the spinning vortex of energy there, thus causing the evidence of itself on the trees

"muggle joe" could walk or sit between the trees and probably would get spacey or feel something, but thats about it

a person skilled in meditation could meditate between the trees and might get images of the other world, but could not cross into it despite their intent to do so

it takes a magic-user to change their physical vibration enough to walk the other world

when does the meditator cross some invisible line to become the magician? - imo, its when they naturally progress from merely observing to attempting to do or change something purposely with an intent

is meditation required to be a magician? - imo, yes, for it gives you access to the real eternal you that has been around forever, and only that personality can leave this physical world and walk the others

Interesting. So although meditation is a powerful practice, it has a limit? Or is what you are saying, once that meditator does more than meditate and observe, using their will and desire, he/she becomes the magician from mere action?

As mostly everything on this earth has a place and purpose for being there, I wonder, is meditation an interchangeable element meant to be used specifically with or for something else? Or simply alone. I suppose meditation is a tool to begin with considering what it yields and the reasons for meditating in the first place. However, I do understand your scenario and the circumstance thereof where the individual would have to do more than meditate. Delving into other areas the which you have illustrated for us does make sense to me and I thank you for your response =)

Esoterica does make a good point. I would say that meditation is not necessarily a prerequisite to practicing magic... however, I do believe that without meditation, the magician will be hard pressed to achieve beyond a certain level of attainment. Meditation builds focus, concentration, inner calm, and perhaps most important for the magician, clarity. Without focus and concentration, the magician can still whip himself into an emotional frenzy and haphazardly fire that emotional energy into a sigil or ritual, etc. Without inner calm he may still figure out what he wants to do magic for, define a purpose for his work. However without clarity his own self-knowledge will never get beyond a superficial level. Clarity is the result of meditation that cannot be attained any other way, because it requires that we turn inward and examine ourself, and seek to still the extraneous mind which obscures our view of the true self.

Clarity is the greatest goal of meditation, I believe - the initiation of what ultimately becomes a cause for further change. It is so important because if we lose that clarity, although we may not lose focus, concentration, or inner calm, we can still lose sight of that inner truth. The unfoldment of that truth is never ending as long as we maintain that clarity.

peace

Liked this responce... as most who meditate do so with intent, even if its only for clarity they are then, ''magicans'', taking control of a situation and changing it according to their will.

Magick is affecting a change through the use of focused will , intention and energies . Here is a suggested continuum ;

Meditation can help us
* clear the mind and to focus intent .

* attain altered states of consciousness and to trance .

* project from the body and work shamynically .

* evocation

* focus healing on person , place or situation

* banish

* exorcise

* affect energy constructs

* control hermetic energies

* develop clairvoyance and clairaudience

* attain realms at will , learning from spirit teachers ie GA/HS or Mahatma

* transmute negative ego

* ascend to higher nature of soul

* attain Kether

* commune with source

* manifest future

But Meditation is only the scaffolding , it is a framework and a tool but it is not enough on its own . It is the study of Magick and the manipulation of will , intention , thought and energies that affords a change . Meditation on its own can even be useless to affect change .

For example a continuum of meditation may include these stages ;

+ failed attempt due to an inability to sit still and be quiet for 5 minutes

+ no visions but a feeling of reduced stress inability to sit up to 10 minutes

+ no visions due to an inability to draw in to deep cleanse the energy body with fresh pranic intake so that brow centre remains inactive , but a feeling of peace when sitting for 20 minutes

+ monochrome gray and white infrequent single images that seem unrelated and hard to interpret inability to sit beyond 20 minutes

+ diverse imagery on monochrome indigo screens lacking interpretation

+ ability to recall and interpret prognosticative dreams

+ streaming monochrome indigo images which can be interpreted as a single message

+ draw in or expel white light energy at will ie to attain trance or heal

+ streaming full coloured images which can be interpreted in multiple messages

+ ability to affect magick within trance begins

+ see auras and some spirit whom appear spontaneously to magician

+ ability to see within dreamstate projections with recall of realms attained

+ ability to draw in and expel energy to heal

+ ability to recall and interpret messages within dreamstate

+ evoke , and see visions to attain messages from HS/GA et al

+ project from body at will during trance to desired locations

+ draw in or expel elemental energies ,at will

+ form constructs such as a pillar, vortex or portal within trance

+ project from body at will to desired location

+ attain trance at will ,tuning in anywhere and anytime despite distractions

+ transmute negative ego

+ exorcise negative energies

+ evoke ,see visions and hear messages from HS/GA et al

+ manifest

+ et cetera
