Hey everybody! I'll get right to the point. Do any of you have music in your dreams and astral journies?

I have been hearing music when i fall asleep and in my sleep since before i can even remember. I have never had repeat music, and ALL of them are original never-been-heard songs. Recently I've discovered a way to use the music as a tool. Its not just for comforting myself into a deep slumber, but it also helps me experience a calm lucidity. when i am aware of the music, i am aware that i am falling asleep. also during meditation or when I want to feel relaxed I listen for the music and I feel calm immediately once I hear it.

Do others of you have the same experience? And have you been catapulted/aided by the music into an astral projection? Have you become lucid in a dream because you became aware of the music. What is the origin of said music? Is this a form of self hypnosis?

i have several theories. Excluding tinnitus and auditory hallucinations, my guesses range from brain neurons rapidly firing off emulating musical affects, to self-induced therapy while said person sleeps, to the ephemeral disembodied musical product of the cosmos. to hear other people's experiences and opinions would be invaluable. thank you! I too, have been experiencing this for quite some time. I have however, experienced the same songs in several dreams, but these dreams were also repeats, very similar, or fit into one overall theme. I've also noticed that the music changes, mutates, and transforms according to my emotions, the events in the dream, and the intensity of the experience. There has been little research on the subject, but one piece I found (http://www.brams.umontreal.ca/cours/files/PSY-6441/Musique%20et%20reves/Uga_2006_Music%20in%20dreams.pdf) suggests that this might show underlying musical talent. Definitely a subject worthy of more research and investigation. If I find any more information on the net I will be sure to post it here.

Whenever anyone falls asleep, his astral body goes out from his physical body; his soul then lives in the Devachanic World. Its harmonies make an impression on his soul; they vibrate through it in waves of living sound, so that every morning he wakes from the music of the spheres, and out of this realm of harmony he passes into the everyday world.

Just as the human soul has a sojourn in Devachan between incarnations, so we can say that during the night the soul rejoices in flowing tones of music: they are the very element out of which it is itself woven and they are its true home.

The connection between the music which resounds in the physical world and the hearing of spiritual music during the night is that the relation of physical music to this spiritual music is like that of a shadow to the object which casts it.

So the music of instruments and voices in the physical world is like a shadow, a true shadow, of the far higher music of Devachan. The primal image, the archetype, of music is in Devachan; and having understood this, we can now examine the effect of music on human beings.

Man has also the Intellectual Soul, and as a still higher member the Spiritual Soul, which is linked with the Spirit-self.. In completely dreamless sleep the higher members, and so also the Sentient Soul, are in the Devachanic World. This is not like living in the physical realm, where everything we see and hear is outside ourselves. The beings of Devachan interpenetrate us, and we are within everything that exists there.

When he returns from this Devachanic world, his Sentient Soul, his Intellectual Soul and his Spiritual Soul are permeated with its rhythms; he carries them down into his denser bodies. He is thus able to work from out of his Intellectual Soul and his Sentient Soul on to his ether-body, and to carry the rhythms into it. As a seal stamps itself on the wax, so the astral body imprints the Devachanic rhythms on the ether-body, until the ether-body vibrates in harmony with them. Ether-body and astral body bear witness in their own being to the spiritual tones and rhythms. The ether-body is lower than the astral body, but in activity it is superior.

T.A B.! damn thats a tasty idea. makes sense that music would be so prominent in dreams...especially since music is a primal habit long entertained by the human race even before language and spoken word was traced...plus other animals share in our musical abilities which they fluently flaunt within a tame range of arranged patterned sequential notes/ frequencies; in other words. sperm whales and birds are good at rhythms, rhymes, and chimes as well. i wonder if whales hear music in their sleep? for that matter, do whales sleep?
plus to give this theory credibility...i do write music. i am very musical in my waking life. by hobby i am a vocalist and composer. so there IS a correlation. what about you?

ankhappy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) where did you cite this from? did this steiner fellow author a book, or did YOU actually write this??? this is very interesting. this makes much sense. quite enlightening indeed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) no wonder. huh. it actually solves a mind boggling puzzle i had, and that was...that when i exit my physical body, it is usually in conjunction with the music which is always greater than myself, a part of myself, and separate from myself...it has a tremendous power over me. however, it is not impossible to ADD your own personal threads of harmony into that atmosphere which often times persuades the music to take a turn otherwise unanticipated.

one such time i overheard two serenading violinists split into the awe inspiring silence, shedding their sweet stradivariun voices through the darkness unto my paused ear...overlapping each other like lonely waves, one on top of the other striving to mesh in two, finally to conjoin in that sorrowful silence at the end, a gentle hush of cathartic release...and then i had to go and say 'very well done ladies...a fine piece!' and out of the hush came an empathic gasp of surprise at my acknowledging their song. i clearly got the message that they thought it was a private, intimate sitting and they did not expect a peeping tom. perhaps this 'devachanic world' allows for mental and spiritual connection with people, much like its shadow, music entails. perhaps one of the best keys to empathic connection between two people is the expression and reception of song. -v
