Concept: An organization whose objective is to research, establish, and apply methods for preparations before death so that the dead practitioner may traverse freely in the afterlife and communicate vital secrets back to non-dead practitioners. Ideally, the dead practitioner must be able to ward off any possible effects of time-distortion, be able to maintain lucidity, and be able to communicate with the non-dead practitioners through any means. Vital secrets could include: knowledge of past/future events, locations of valuable items, methods of conjuring/controlling spirits, etc.
What I'm proposing is a pact among practitioners to attempt to share the knowledge of each individual after they have died.
I'm trying to keep this vague so to illicit more of a response. Also, my own ideas aren't fully solid yet and I don't want to go off on tangents. I'm interested in what people think, and their views on the concept. More (but not that much more) specifically:
What methods would you employ towards becoming more useful (to the living) in the afterlife?
What fields would you study?
In what forms, if any, does this practice already exist?
etc.

I think astral projection would help with familiarizing yourself and making the transition between the planes easier.

Expect nothing, or you will get caught up in the future and not pay attention to the present. Just do the practice diligently, do it because you enjoy it, do it because you believe in it. Don't wait for results, don't wait for it to happen.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I was thinking about this a while back, along a different line, but there is some cross-over.

I'd suggest self-hypnosis (to "remember") so that one has at least some chance of remembering what they were supposed to do after they died (i.e. get back in touch if possible).

The invocation of the deceased comes to mind, but they are, in my experience, seldom very concrete about what has happened to them or what their surroundings are. Hence my idea about trying to find a way to stay focused after transitioning.

All of which is probably a really bad idea if it leads one to get stuck during transition because one cannot let go.

Dunno - it's an interesting idea, though.

Best,

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol_2.gif) LOL

I think one would need to be a Tibetan Buddhist sorcerer for a couple of lifetimes before managing to do what you're proposing. It might be an interesting group magickal exercise, but probably unfeasible in the final analysis unless, and I said, you were highly developed mystical adepts with years if not aeons of deconditioning and training in your pockets. Even certain types of native Shamanism other than Buddhist sorcery touch on this.

Or else you could get into Spiritualism or Channeling. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bunnyjump.gif)
