i wrote this for something else, but its still valid - think it out and analyze it, and think about what this story has to do with your problem - and yes the astral plane can be noisy with all sorts of stuff flying around, but you are usually the source
Janet goes to the Joshua Tree Conference

It was out there, moving, slipping back and forth like a shuttle on a loom.
Janet could see no weave or weft or even loom, but she felt that something was being created!
She tried looking at it sideways, using her peripheral vision.
Some sailor gal had taught her that ages ago, how on the night watch they would not look at things directly in order to see them better.
When she looked askew at them, what she saw was odd, yet beautiful, even hauntingly so!
It was the white-silver of the moon, and as it ran back and forth, it loped and surged.
Now there was another, and then another, all galloping along in a troop!
She jumped!
What, what was that!?!?
There was another one behind her!
It was heading straight for her!!
She couldn't get out of the way!!!!

Laney walked through the Conference crowd, looking for her friend in the bonfire-light reflected from their faces.
It was not like Janet to disappear like this, and Laney was getting worried!
Thus place could hold many secrets, from the outspaced buildings that spread way out across the desert, to the odd designs by Frank Lloyd Wright's kid.
Did she fall through one of the many supposed vortexes that the residents looking for healing had lined with crystals, rags and rocks?
Had she drowned in one of the many shallow pools that dotted the property?
She checked the lunchroom, no one was there!
Where could her friend have vanished to?!?!
Was she trapped in the tents of the Caravansary, Lloyd Wright Jr's answer to Motel6 here at the old Dingle Mental Physics School?
No, but the hairs on the back of her neck were raising, a sure sign that there was magic afoot somewhere near!
Seeing as Mr Dingle had become Ding Le Mei when he went to study in Tibet, perhaps she should ask the local Jetsun?
She heard voices and shuffling of feet, and a whispered cough, and went to investigate, but it was just some cigarette fiends sneaking a smoke behind one of the buildings.
She wandered on, seeking what wasn't visible...
-
Janet clutched the Conference ID badge in her sweating hand, the edges cutting into her flesh, the pain giving her some grasp on reality.
She was, where?
She didn't know, but it was like a glowing white city!
It wasn't huge like a big city, but it was larger than some one-traffic-light town somewhere in the backwoods.
She saw it now, it was a village!
There was a market square with stuff for sale and those silvery blobs milling about must be people!?!?!
Was it her eyes, or was it them, that were wrong?
Her body looked normal, but she knew instinctively that she dare not move against the fear that they might notice her!
Locked in paralysis, she could only stare and watch as now short stocky blobs moved among the bigger blobs.
A wave of repulsion flooded her body as she realized that what she was seeing was real, that she was so far beyond her everyday experience as to be lost forever in the chaos of this fear-blanket she huddled in!!
Then, there was a girl, a normal human girl, who walked out from between the white buildings with her normal looking regular parents, a mom and a dad, wearing regular street clothes, and the normal girl ran up to one of the blobs and looked like she was talking to it!
Could they be in disguise as regular people, what, to spy or to invade, or could it be some other insidious desire that mingled them here?
Janet's breath caught in her throat, the girl was looking at her!!!
She was coming right at her, what could she do?!?!?
They had her paralysed, these awful white-blob-people!!
The girl was coming this way!!!
She had the most evil, disgusting, horrible look on her mask of a face, and Janet screamed!!!
The girl walked right up to Janet, smiling her quiet smile of innocence and wonder, and she said 'Hello'.
The End
