I tried to post this earlier but my computer went a bit mental when I pressed the post button (a sign maybe?) so sorry if it somehow ends up double posted or anything!

Anyways, I'm curious as to how rigid people feel the practises in this area should be? Should it be done by the book or should we be creative and experimental (and educated!) with our practises?

The reason I ask this is because I may attempt to evoke some spirits I've recently read about who I can't seem to find much definite information about at all, and obviously I want to be as safe as I can in doing this, so I'll be using a circle and Solomonic triangle - however, while looking into triangles it seems that they nearly always have three names of God written around them. While I understand why they are written there, for me it just doesn't feel right and I'd rather (if possible) have a triangle that means a lot more to me as the magician. As far as I know the symbols, words, gestures etc used in magic are generally to allow the magician to enter the mental and energetic states required to do the work he/she intends, this is done via the feelings and imagery etc that the magician associates with them and the way they interpret them - what the magician thinks they mean. So, do we have to stick to traditional methods or should we develop our own using the symbols, words, body language etc that we feel most appropriate?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/egypt1.gif)
