Every so often, I'll have a dream so real and powerful that it actually stays in my memory. (Now, this wouldn't be so remarkable if I didn't have a horrible memory)

For instance: A few nights ago I had a dream where one of my friends and I were stuck at our school. There was a power outage and we could not get out of the building. As we wandered through the dark hallways, we discovered that we weren't alone. After our classmates joined us, we continued to explore in the dark. I stumbled upon a staircase hidden in the darkness. I started to fall down the stairs... and then I woke up.

It is rare that I get these memorable dreams.

Anyone else ever have dreams so powerful that they remember them for a few days after having them?

I normally recall my dreams - and normally they're populated with people I know from waking life... however, recently there's been this recurring girl who I've never met before (if she even exists)... despite the varying situations within the dreams themselves.

Getting me quite puzzled.

The value of an individual is not numerically assignable. Given the individual's infinite capacity to affect change (for better or for worse), it follows that their value is just as infinite. Logically then, not only are all individuals of equal value, but all possible combinations and groupings of individuals are of equal value, and finally, no matter an individual's past actions, their capacity to affect positive change is not diminished.

The value of the individual is sacrosanct, but actions must be directed in an effort to affect positive change.

It's so frustrating that I can remember not only those recent dreams that had some sort of impact on me, but I can relive dreams I had when I was 7-8 years old, especially those when I was flying and frightened because of the high altitude... How was I able to feel like flying in those dreams when it was a feeling I never had in my waking life?
I hate the posibility of OBE in my childhood because I don't understand why I cannot do it again now.
And the worst part is that since I read in DO_OBE that the only difference between the waking life and the dream life is the continuity of memory present only in the waking life, well, it seems that I'm dreaming all the time. Things are hapenning to me and I just watch them hapenning and try to figure out in what life I am in.

GeeGee it is possible for childeren to have OBE's much more than most adults due to the fact that they are still somehow more spiritually linked... usually about 13 is when it all stops, puberty is kind of a spiritual disconnect so we can chose if we want to be in tune or not with our spirit. You can do it again... keep working on it!

Dreams are pretty amazing things, powerful yet subtle ways our subconsious and unconcious mind talk with us... Because the best time to get us is in our sleep, because we dont have our veils up so much and the influence of" reality" to sabotage the work that the sub and unconcious mind need to do with us everynight.

Memorable dreams are residues left there in the morning (and sometimes long after) for us to ponder and figure out... like a puzzle or homework our subconcious leaves for us to figure out... sometimes it is an OBE experience that is pointing the way to a new destination.Other times its our Subconcious's way of saying "Hey stop doing that its hurting you". And the rest is usually processing and new changes...

Off hand I can probably recall 50 or so dreams from the past few years. One thing I notice is (I vacation to Arizona / Mexico yearly) that during vacation time I dream every night, in much detail, and have strong recall. In the mundany city / suburbian life, I can only recall, at best 2 dreams a week, and these fade over the course of the month. Also, perhaps this is only a personal thing, but abstiance from sexual thought and activity, after a week, produces vivid dreams ever night, with little to no sexual references.

Also at times, perhaps once a year, I experience a dream, during the day, that I did not in any way remember ever having dreamt. The theory is that we are dreaming all the time, that it is a subconscious encoding process that we are usually only somewhat aware of in stages of sleep. The difficulty with this experience, is that short-term memory is somehow re-routed, so that the dream is experience, in the waking state, but it cannot be encoded. Simmilar to the limbic flash of many psychedelic drug states.

I think that what's happening there is that the disruption of your usual life is helping you dream. This happens to me also and I attribute it to changing the normal everyday routine. You mention abstinence and you're not alone in that. To tie it in to the vacation dreams...if you are abstinent for a long while, the dreams taper off also. To combat this, sexual thoughts or action break up the usualness and bring on quality dreaming. I'm not sure if others experience a change in their dream patterns, but it works for me.

Every now and then I have really memorable dreams that I remember for years on end. I remember a reoccuring dream from childhood where I was cornered by every kind of monster conjured up. I always awoke as they were about to catch me. I only stopped getting them when I became a teenager and took control of my life.

I have never been a person that regularly remembers dreams in the morning. When I started my magickal studies I followed the advice in many books and started to keep a dream journal/diary, and also a meditation journal/diary...tried it for a while and then promptly stopped both.

Why? I found that I was remembering my dreams a lot more, that they became more vivid, but that my mind was starting to try and sort the dream as it was happening into a journal entry. I have decided that I prefer having less vivid dreams in a 'pure' form, than more vivid dreams in a 'poluted' form.

It must be some strange way my mind works (IMG:style_emoticons/default/7.gif) The practice of keeping a dream journal is quite popular so I assume other prople do not have the same problem.

I used to keep a dream journal as well. I found that it helped me break down my internal code and helped me change some very negative things in my life. I guess dreams are here to do exactly what they are meant to, which is different for everyone.

I kept a dream journal, but I only fill it in with the dreams I want to remember. Before I wake up *usually* I can choose to do so - and gather the dreams - sort of like summarize it as I awaken myself from the dream. Most of these dreams usualy has a moral story to it that I find useful. Some other dreams are just funny, or simply doesn't make sense at all.

Memorable dreams I have plenty, especially one funny dream where I got chased by a mob of gangsters while having gun fight with them but I was way outnumbered and got shot right in the ass while taking cover which woke me up laughing. Fun!

I had a memorable dream the night before last, and it was perhaps the most cryptic dream I have had.

I was in a brightly lit room with random people my high school (all of which I knew, none of which I really cared for in particular) apparently having some sort of Barbeque. Pretty early on in the dream Rin just appears, like he is on vacation or something. I introduce him to some folks, and I check on the adults cooking and chat it up with them. When I return, Rin is sitting on the couch...coloring in a coloring book with a boy named Mike. As soon as I approach them, Mike looks up with huge gaping eyes and says with a great amount of amazement, "He's color cautious!"

Fini

The phrase is so cool, it has become my signature, but I still don't have a clue what it means. Nevertheless, I woke up really confused and chuckling.

What's really crazy is that I have had a dream a that is frighteningly similar to the one decribed!

Your topic description says "am I dreaming?"

I say "Are you awake?"
