Muha! Just watched "The Witches of East Arlen." OMG funny as hell. Anyone else seen it?

I'm left with a nagging feeling that some of the satire is a bit more "spot on" than I'd like it to be, what with some practitioners and groups being (in some cases) a bunch of really un-empowered people entertaining silly delusions of grandeur.

IMHO, we should strive to be as successful in life as we are in magick, assuming that we keep them separate to begin with. But I also get irritated when "worldly success" becomes the only criterion for mystical achievement.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Pretty fun. I enjoy King of the Hill. I am a little disappointed, though, that they presented it so one-sidedly. I know it is just for fun, but - for instance - when Bobby attempts to make the ball fall from the roof, would it have hurt to depict a gust of wind actually manifesting? Taken within the context of the rest of the show, it would obviously be coincidence, but at the same time one could make the case that the only criticisms leveled at the "witches" is that they're losers, not that their magic is ineffective.

That's how I'd have done it, anyway.

Yeah, it wouldn't have hurt for the soccer ball to have fallen off the roof at that instant, or to have Bobby do a Tarot reading at the beginning that turns out to be eerily right at the end of the program. Wonder if it would have been too threatening for a Fox program to entertain some real supernatural magick occurring; much less scary to dismiss all occultism as immature fantasy than to make fun of some of the hijinks surrounding it and suggest there's something to it.

Was a bit more irritated the first time I saw it too, but obviously it's not a whole representation of what occultism is or what occult groups are about so didn't bother me as much this last time.

I really like the episode where Bobby is shown to be the reincarnation of a Buddhist lama. Seen that one? I felt they really did a good job poking fun of Buddhism while also suggesting a mystical element to it as well. But again, Buddhism is a little more kosher in our culture than occultism.

Yeah, that one was pretty good too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol_2.gif) Didn't offend me as a Buddhist, but I firmly believe in the right to mock whatever you want.
