Movie Reviews, What is the latest movie you've seen? Options

DVD (pirated) cost only $0.80 each here so I bought about 80 of them about last month. I've watched a few of them I'd like to comment very quickly to get this thread going:

Band of Brothers: Excellent! Go Spielberg! I think I watched this time 3 times all over again.

White Noise: Not too bad, the plot could be better - but it's still quite fun watching it.

eXistenZ: lame... weird and close to boring in general, but I like some scenes and idea they try to present.

Saw: Good movie! clever twist and I was surprised of the ending. I thought I was buying a horror movie but it end up a thriller and what a good thrill it was!

Sleepy Hollow: Always like Depp, excellent acting, good plot! I'd like to see more movies like this, any idea?

Secret Window: hmm not my kind of thriller movie, but this one is sort of a "servitor" movie where Depp creates this imaginary character and in the end... go watch it, it's not the best but quite good.

Hostage: Bruce Willis starred in this one, and I'm very dissapointed with the plot, the story was weak and I simply stop watching it halfway. What? Bruce against a bunch of weak teens in a hostage situations?

Flight of the Phoenix: A story about a plane crashed in Gobi desert and on how the surviving crew work together to get out and survive. Fun!

The New Zatoichi: Japanese movie. A story of a blind samurai. The first good action Japanese movie I've seen since.. ehem.... The Last Samurai (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Great samurai action - japanese style - great story, this has become one of my fave after... ehm, The Last Samurai. The ending a bit "corny" though... yea, the japs movie market probably likes that kind of ending.

Ocean's Twelve: Love it. But the first is always the best.

Bone Snatcher: Stay away! I only spent 20 minutes watching it and went the disk flying to the trash bin. Bad acting, and one of the worst plot I've ever seen.

Kill Bill 1 & 2: Uma Thurman definately have no idea how to do a martial art stuff, but the visual effect, story line and the rest is great.

The Recruit: Al Pacino! The greatest of my kind of actor. Ah, I've never seen any of his movie sucks. Powerful acting, exciting story, and a must buy!

Friends: Bought the whole series. Fun every episodes of it. The only TV show I ever enjoyed.

I will limit this to movies I have seen recently at the cinema as having access to 2mb broadband means I can download and watch a lot of films (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

The Edukators - The film blurb said - "Jan, Peter and Jule are living out their rebellious youth. They are united by their passion to change the state of the world. Jan and Peter become "The Edukators," mysterious perpetrators who non-violently warn the local rich their "days of plenty are numbered." Complications follow when the vulnerable Jule ends up falling for both young men. Reckless choices result in danger. An operation gone wrong and what was never intended to be a kidnapping brings the three young idealists face-to-face with the values of the generation in power. This gutsy film from Director Hans Weingartner is an uplifting ode to youth, full of anger, hope, frustration, love and confusion. Its cast is uniformly excellent and Weingartner's visual style is an assured one. THE EDUKATORS is a knock out film experience from start to finish.". I say - damn good film, intelligent and explored each of the main characters whilst telling the story. Well worth seeing if you like modern german films and want to watch something that will make you think.

Its all gone Pete Tong - The film blurb said - 'A Riot of Comedy'. I say - Yep, it is funny in places, the music is great, and Paul Kaye is superb in the lead role as Franki Wilde the DJ who has gone to the edge and back again. This film is also touching and poigniant in places, which lifts it above the usual run of the mill british comedy.

Blade Trinity ,
Love Vampire movies , I was thrilled by both blade 1 and 2 , but in comparison this bordered on B grade , I was highly disappointed but the frustration did not end their . Given the anticipation and yawning during this particular film , has left me wondering if they are running out of good plots.
My last hope of a good vampire movie thrill is , perhaps a follow-up to Underworld.

Just watched Constantine and it's awesome (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) It's the best occult movie I've seen up to date.

John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) is born with a gift - a curse as he'd like to refer it with his supranatural powers who literally been to hell and back. He is an exorcist, occulist, and demonologist sending demons back to hell.

This is a movie where you'll see the world of demons and angels, Archangel Gabriel whom Constantine seemed to have close relationship with a hidden agenda, Lucifer - whom he'd casually talked with and refer as "Lu", the story of Mammon, astral projection to hell, exorcism, containing demon in a mirror, and sexy Rachel Weisz (Enemy at the Gates) It's like a mix of Interview with a Vampire, The Matrix, Dracula 2000, The Exorcist, and Underworld. A must see occult movie.

if you like vampire movies you should check the new anime "trinity blood' its rather good, their idea of the rose-cross order however is completely fictional.

Its being fansubbed now, its rather new, only 6 episodes or so have been released.

I watched van helsing, (great animation), vampires and werewolfs transforming, definately worth the purchase.

My mum bought me queen of the damned christmas, definately the must coolest, mind blowing films for me, I usually admire sutble things but this film is to feed people who dream of being great.

I'm also a massive fan of interview with the vampie.

Another film is stigmata, jesus does psy attacks on some non religious funky ladie!

Mortal kombat, just love these different worlds, that change my perception so much!.

Sin City(pirate): Very bloody, but lives upto critic hype. However, they didn't organise the senarios in the correct order which I realised after the final segment had finished. One gripe? As it's pirate, I missed the credits when I wanted to check on one of the supporting cast.

Shallow Grave: Not that overly scary which defeats the film's purpose but doesn't take anything away from the film. Story is a group of three Scottish flatmates hold meetings with people to become the fourth flatmate. They pick one and a day later the flatmate is dead and they find a suitcase full of money. As they decide what to do with the money they must dispose of the body and keep the police at bay and try to stop themselves getting killed by the same gang who killed their flatmate...As I said, scary? No, but very enjoyable and a great early example of Danny Boyle's work.

Apart from these, nothing interesting.

I reluctantly agreed to come to see Madagascar (for friendship sakes) one of my girlfriend invited me to go since I've been rejecting her invites for months and the movie turn out to be hillarious! Funny musical, great animation and lots of laugh!

I just watched Kungfu Hustle for the third time! all within 3 months!
Yes, it is THAT good!

It's the very best chinese action comedy movie I've ever seen up to date.
Starring, produced and directed by Stephen Chow. (one of the top Hong Kong movie star)

Comedy:5/5 Funniest movie ever! (few scenes are disgustingly funny (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mf_popcorn.gif) )
Action/martial art: 5/5 Expect a mix of Jet Lee, Jackie Chan, and the Matrix fight scenes , only better! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bruce_h4h.gif)

Choreographed by Yuen Wo Ping, top martial art choreograper in the world. This is movie is one of his best work.

Some Screenshots from the movie

Not much of a movie buff myself, but loves the series!! Queer As Folk being my absolute favorite, for some obvious reasons (I'm a lesbian, so it naturally fits my repitoir), the story lines are incrediably catching, and the actors are phenomenal.

Nip/Tuck is my second fave. I just started watching it from the beginning again, and if you can stand watching them slice and dice people, it's totally groovy.

Trailer Park Boys...home country fave. Set in a trailer park with Julian and Ricky always trying to grow pot and failing, usually ending up in jail. The twisted love octogans, and shopping carts is absolutely hilarious.

Six Feet Under makes you think while giving you much entertainment. Drug addicts and sex addicts...just can't get enough.

And Rescue Me. Who doesn't love Dennis Leary? He's still an ***hole.

Oh dear...a thought just occured..because I didn't list any movies, does this make this post off topic? It's still a amateur review? Heh? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush2.gif)

In the light of the depression of today brought on by the terrorism in my home country, me and the wife went for a night out in Hamilton .....

WAR OF THE WORLDS

A new version of the old scene .... I thought at first .... Hollywood remake etc etc ....

But how pleasantly I was surprised!

One of the best Tom Cruise films yet (the wife worships Tom Cruise. We met him at the premier of Vanilla Sky and the wife was so mesmerised she couldn't say a word other than hi!)

From the onset the special effects are awesome ... the electrical storm over New York Village .... the subsequent earth splitting open to let out the alien craft .... the destruction of the church ... the zapping and obliteration of humans by the lasers of the alien tripods ...

The tripods themselves ....

The general feel of the movie ...



Brilliant .... very sobering how real it looked ... makes you wonder what else Hollywood can do .... how many of the news reports in war torn Iraq etc are actually hollywood film sets??? Just a thought .... what is to come in the future .... we always believe what we are told is real don't we???

What if they suddenly announced they'd found life on Mars ... would we believe the footage???

Went to the flicks again last night:-

THE ISLAND

A film I enjoyed but which the wife fell asleep watching after twenty minutes.

Overall an EXCELLENT film but with a very rushed and corny ending.

Set in a futuristic about 20 years from now.

A supposed colony of humans who survive some kind of contamination. They have 'The Island' lottery to try to win ... to leave the colony and begin life on the last uncontamincatuon part of the world

Or so they think!

Needless to say I will give clues only to the plot ...

Rich people paying for 'insurance policies' .... cloning .... an Area 51 like base where the colony live there lives ....

mmm ... got the grey cell matter tweaking ... good film all in all.

Got Constantine on DVD just recently , I guess I'm just too used to seeing Keanu Reeves on the Matrix . It took a little while to get used to him in this role , once the movie got going it was highly satisfying entertainment . Given some personal experiences I strongly felt that their was a blend of fact and fiction .

This movie is definately a guy movie which make you go WOHOO!!!
Fun, funny, exciting, and highly entertaining!

My ex bought me Tom Hanks' "The Terminal" DVD a few weeks ago which I just got to watch today and I have to say that like all Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg's movie, this movie are very entertaining and touching. I thought it would be hard for me to believe Tom Hanks playing as a non english speaker but great acting Tom! If you like Forest Gump then go see this one. You'll love it. I wonder when there will be a movie of Al Pacino with Tom Hanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/13.gif)

Kingdom of Heaven

Another masterpiece by Ridley Scott. It seemed like pure solid gold are kept coming out from this particular producer.

Kingdom of heaven is a spectacular Epic Adventure, and it's heart warming, touching, where you'll find courage, honor, strength, consciences, tolerance, war, peace and love amongst other things I simply cannot put in words. This moview has become one of my personal favorite and I cannot recommend you watch and own this DVD highly enough. Make sure you do have a good, if not great home movie system. Again, IMHO, this one is a truely a masterpiece. 5 out of 5 stars!

SEPTEMBER TAPES

Unlike any film every made, SEPTEMBER TAPES combines BLAIR WITCH staging with real in-you-face danger. By blending the staged with the real, director Christian Johnston has crafted a serious look at what Afghanistan is going through and not watered down version that is seen on nightly T.V.

Part play-acting and part real life, SEPTEMBER TAPES involves the audience in a new way. Are those real bullets whizzing past the camera, where there real mortars exploding, are those real guns being shoved in the actors? They sure look real. That’s what makes this movie so intense and quickly makes the viewer wonder what’s real and fake.

Don Larson (George Calil) goes to Afghanistan to hunt down Osama bin Laden and hopefully explain the death of his wife at the World Trade Center. He enlists Wali Zarif (Wali Razaqi) as his interpreter in Farsi and guide. Lastly get hires Sunil (Sunil Sadarangani) as his quite but determined cameraman. The three set off to Kabul to find leads to Osama and eventually out to the countryside of Afghanistan where the real danger lies.

George Calil creates an unwavering commitment in Lars. He’s both strong headed and unstoppable in his quest. He gives the film its drive and at times makes you wonder how far he will go to obtain his quest. Wali Razaqi keeps Lars from going to far and creates a tether to the real dangers he at times seems oblivious to. From almost getting shot buying black market weapons to a vicious car chase with rocket launchers, the actors keep the action feeling real and intense.

Shot on digital video, director Johnston makes good use of his run and gun filming style. At times unfocused as bombs and bullets go off around the cameraman’s head, Johnston makes the audience feel like they are in the middle of the real dangers that the crew faces. Johnston’s extreme sports background really pays off here. If he plays his cards right, he could become a real voice in film.

While not a date film by any stretch of the imagination, SEPTEMBER TAPES will leave a lasting impression on anyone that watches it. It is a must see, if for no other reason than to see what can be accomplished when a small group of people work outside of Hollywood and take real chances.

I just went back from seing Li Lianjie (Jet Li's) latest movie "Fearless" and I have to say that this is one of his best work ever since the Wong Fei Hung series of "Once Upon a Time in China".

The movie is simply - b e a u t i f u l -

If you do wushu, or interested in chinese martial art, then I'll bet you'll love this movie.

King Kong, as mentioned, was the last one I seen. Although it really is not that recent...

I hear that there is supposed to be an Indiana Jones IV coming out soon; although Harrision is getting a bit old now - which should make it interesting !

Just saw Enemy at the Gates, very good movie. The sex scene made me go.."No..he's not going to..in front of all those people!? Man, that takes balls..er..no pun intended (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)"

Memoirs of a Geisha was ok. It actually kinda weirded me out, the thought of a six year old girl falling in love with a man who could be her father just didn't sit well with me.

The magic of Pegasus I have a three year old girl..what do you expect.

One of my favourite movies will always be The Abyss.
