Well, i know it might be controversial to ask this but..

Was he a real man? cos a lot of people seem to think so.

When i was a lad my dad said, 'no it's a really old analogy for the sun coming up'
When i was older, an begun to believe in 'miracles' i figured it wasn't that far fetched an he probably did exist.
Now days i rather think he's like a super-charged deity sun egregore.. an my father was kind of right, for once.

It's a hard subject to approach, it was a long time ago so it's always going to be a bit of a mystery.
For me, Jesus doesn't feel like a person would, which might be because he was half god,
but it might not be.

Any ideas an opinions would be great. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

There seems to be enough evidence that he has existed (as a man) if you want to believe, and there seems to be enough evidence lacking that you can reasonably not believe, if you want. Your call.

Expect nothing, or you will get caught up in the future and not pay attention to the present. Just do the practice diligently, do it because you enjoy it, do it because you believe in it. Don't wait for results, don't wait for it to happen.

As a religious figure, whether he existed or not is not really the point. Many christians might hold that their religion is valid -because- he was a real person who was crucified and was ressurected, but frankly that happens all the time in religions, and all of those cultures likely had people on both sides of the same fence as well. So if it's valid because he was real, then logically all those others are valid as well. It would be harder to falsify such a record these days, but back in the old days a friend tells a friend tells a son tells a nephew... you get the picture.

The main difference between the story of Jesus and most of those other crucified and resurrected deities is that in Jesus' story he does incredible things, but isn't called a God. Just the Son of God. While the overall story of course suggests he was 'god in the flesh' it's still a significant difference in terms of how the story infects the human heart.

It really should not matter, though. The important thing about any religious figure is that they represent an Ideal to be embodied, not that they actually existed or did the things they supposedly did. They are supposed to be stories that inspire us to consider how we live, what mark we want to make on the world, what and how we want our relationship to a divine source to be, how we make moral decisions and by what code we govern our actions and thoughts. Living intentionally and consciously according to our own desire (whatever that desire is, whether it's partying or abstaining, etc.) rather than living haphazardly and driven by nothing more than our animal nature.

The whole reason people even argue whether or not Jesus existed is because they forget that very thing. Or, no one told them in the first place, which is just as common, we've always taken everything very literally in the west.

peace

I think that there is enough historical evidence for his existence to conclude that he was a real person, regardless of whether he was the son of god or not.
